Kyocera Echo pre-orders begin at Sprint

mobile

The Kyocera Echo, Sprint’s new Android 2.2 (Froyo) smartphone — with two displays stacked on top of one another, Nintendo DS style — is now available for pre-order. Interested customers can reserve the Echo for $199.99, after a $100 mail-in rebate, for delivery on April 17th. We went up close with the Echo during CTIA last week, and we enjoyed the device’s second screen — which can double as a large touchscreen keyboard, enhance game-play, and more. Sprint says “quantities are limited,” hit the jump if you’re interested in reserving yours now.

It’s Droid so it will sell just fine.

    • Teteroto

      Tell that to Sanyo Zio

    • BeezerWhizzer

No, it’s not “Droid”…it’s “Android”…this phone is not worthy of DROID branding.

I smell a major flop. Nice try though, Kyocera. You get a E for effort.

Didn’t sprint do away with mail in rebates recently? announcment was posted on this site as well? i don’t get why it says there still 100 mail-in rebate

    • Kld2009

The no mail in rebates period ends the day the Echo comes out.

A part of me thinks this could be an interesting phone. But another part wonders how many apps will actually take advantage of the dual screen, will it ever get updated to the newest version of Android and how people will react when they see that I have a brick in my pocket.

    • Smartguy

Ok, the part of you that thinks this could be an interesting phone..kill it, so that part of you doesnt infect the rest of civilized humanity.

        Done. Humanity better thank me.

        Thanks.

Could bet some good bucks that battery life won’t get this phone thru one day in my world. Sorry Android, we just aren’t good friends.

Even though I have ZERO interest in this phone, I still come check out the posts just to read the comments and laugh at how we all agree that we are all perplexed as to why this is even being sold or why it even had its own event.

“Limited quantities” sounds like “test run” to see if we should even bother making more… why don’t companies announce shit a couple months before actually making a shit ton of them so the companies can gauge interest and determine whether to make changes or not.

    • Smartguy

Limited quantities of sh!t is still sh!t

  • Badchad

*UPDATE: All six pre-orders have been placed.

    • Smartguy

EVOOOO 3D will launch June 3, 2011, and be sold out by June 6th!!

The ECHO was a much better publicity stunt for David Blaine than it was for Sprint; at least he “got paid” and Sprint “got played”.

    • Bege850

      Source of the release date?

  • AlexM

What a bunch of sour, jaded comments! The Echo is the most innovative and useful mobile phone I have seen. I wish Kyocera could put Honeycomb on this puppy and call it the Echo tablet phone.

    • Bullet Tooth Tony

Becoming jaded is often a result of brushes with reality.

Rose-tinted glasses, however, are often worn by dreamers.

The reality here, is that this phone is terrible and will sell about as much as the Motorola Devour.

Definitely interested in seeing where this functionality goes — some cool features. Nice battery charge feature, too. But the specs and the FroYo-ness of it all isn’t doing it for me on this particular set. On Sprint but no 4G? Make another one, Kyocera. I might buy it.
