Verizon Wireless ‘LTE Smartphone’ now known as Samsung DROID Charge

mobile

Remember that vaguely named “LTE Smartphone” being flaunted at CES by both Samsung and Verizon Wireless? According to intel gather by blog PocketNow, it looks like that very same handset will henceforth be known as the DROID Charge. Originally codenamed Stealth, the DROID Charge (also known as the SCH-i510) packs a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GHz Hummingbird processor, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with 720p video recording, 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera, LTE/CDMA radios, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, aGPS, HDMI-out, and Android 2.2. Neither Verizon nor Samsung have confirmed the device’s new nickname, and “April” is a popular release-date rumor circulating the intertubes.

    So it’s essentially a Galaxy S plus.

So it’s a slate DROID phone with 4 buttons at the bottom. I don’t understand the fascination with having every new Android phone look exactly the same.

So basically like every single iphone. 3.5 inch screen with one single button below it.

If you want to compare one manufacturer with 4 models to Samsung/LG/HTC/Motorola and the plethora of models available, sure.

This one actually does look different from other Android phones. Unless, of course you mean that all phones have screens and buttons, are somewhat rectangular in shape and make calls. In that case yes, it does look like every other phone.

        That was awesome!

        Of course, Android doesn’t suck

I would get this… but its gonna get almost no dev support because of the shitty samsung update system….

The selling point is the super amoled+( the + means no pentile matrix=no shared green subpixels) screen which will probably be the nicest screen on Verizon until qHD phones without the pentile matrix comes out.

Droid Life had this info a week ago…

That’s awesome! Then why are you reading and commenting on it here?

      • Octotron

Because good journalists properly credit sources :)

        Touché

      • Exactly.

Its already been proven that Munchbach has no integrity.

        BGR is a joke.

DUMBBBB !!!!!!!! (Or, DUMMMMBER) would have been better names. Personally, I think Stealth has more cache and marketing potential. Was someone on drugs with that Charge-less name?

Vendors are running out of catchy names PAPITO. That’s all.

        Like iPhone 5?

Still no reason to upgrade from my Fascinate and use a upgrade. Looks ok though I’m not liking the buttons over touch.

if you can get 4g coverage.. its worth the upgrade… a “droid” means better vendor support required by vzw. i loved my fascinate.. because of the dev community, not the vendor. at least it was easy to flash if they can follow GPL and release sources in a timely manner this could be a great upgrade.

That is an UGLY phone! I dont care how nice the screen is…looks like a Blackberry 8700 from yesteryear

This is like a bandaid over the original galaxy S. Wish they’d just get their sh*t together and get a verizon-branded Galaxy S II with LTE to the market. Annoying.

Geez. BGR, little late on the news.

And suddenly, the Droid name means squat. The 1st Android phone that won’t see a (relatively) timely update to the OS, or a functioning GPS

I must admit, while I don’t like a lot of Samsung’s devices, this phone looks pretty attractive.

I hope that doesn’t mean you have to walk with a charger like most Driod users… LMBO @ “Charge”

  • Smartguy

Ok, LTE 4G is the wave of the future & worth it’s weight in gold. Any thing 3G (iPhone4 & yes iPhone5) is so 2010.

  • joshie

Appropriate name, as I bet you’ll need to charge it several times a day.

    Also, 2.2? Really, Samsung? Really?
