Mozilla launches Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo [video]

mobile

On Tuesday, Mozilla released the latest version of Firefox 4 for Android and Maemo smartphones. Firefox 4 now includes support for Firefox Sync, which allows you to sync open tabs, history, bookmarks, passwords, and other data, between your computer and your smartphone. The new Firefox allows for tabbed browsing, add-on installation, and features a new, streamlined look. Mozilla says it will also automatically hide the browser controls when they aren’t in use, which should allow users to view more of the website you’re parked on. There’s also options to save PDFs, share pages, and customize the default search engine. Mozilla says that Firefox 4 is up to 3x faster than the stock Android browser. Firefox 4 for Android is available in the Market now, and the Maemo version can be downloaded here.

I went to look at the live feed of the “Firefox Cubs” on the “Parent Cam ‘Snooze’” and it looks like a Windows error for Internet Explorer. Ironic because it’s on a site for Firefox and the webcam computer is running IE.

I want to like and use Firefox but I just cannot. I absolutely loved Firefox sync but the set up was a little too much. The 20 digit key was a little annoying when syncing across 3 machines.

Also, can someone verify if this version has Flash? I uninstalled it because I could not watch any youtube clips from a website. Firefox would be the best solution if not for Chrome. I don’t like using Google products but it seems its a lighter browser with less problems.

If you read the app info within the Market, it says NO FLASH CAPABILITIES.

Just downloaded and started Sync…wow. Super handy. Love this. Annoying initial setup, yes, but overall really great.

Unbelievably slow on the captivate running 2.2. The stock browser runs circles around it on my phone. Very disappointing.

Tried it out on the Thunderbolt and I think I’ll let it mature a bit more before I give it another go.
