Motorola ATRIX 4G 4.1.57 update available, no AT&T HSUPA support yet

mobile

Software version 4.1.57 for the Motorola ATRIX 4G is now available. The 17MB file, issued by Motorola, adds a number of improvements but is not the expected AT&T update that includes HSUPA support. After downloading the update, Motorola says users should notice the following changes:

  • Bluetooth: Improved multimedia experience with Bluetooth devices as well as the ability to use phone with additional headsets.
  • Fingerprint reader: Improved fingerprint reader performance.
  • Battery: Improved battery performance for longer battery life.
  • Screen: Display will turn off automatically now while charging directly on wall charger.
  • Phone stability: Improved stability resulting in fewer occurrences of touch unresponsiveness and/of programs quitting unexpectedly.
  • Car dock: Improved performance of car dock and 3.5mm jack.

It’s been reported that the update may cause some issues with those who have rooted their phones. AT&T has said that the upcoming HSUPA software update, which should ratchet up upload speeds on the ATRIX 4G and Inspire 4G, will land in April. Hit the jump for instructions on installing software version 4.1.57 on your ATRIX 4G.

Unfortunately, HSUPA will never be available on AT&T aka Cingular. What a true shame and waste.

Anyone who bought a phone on AT&T expectIng 4G is an idiot.

The iPhone 4 has it… today. Great to have an open platform, doesn’t it?

AT&T confirmed HSUPA coming to ATRIX and Inspire in April, along with a new Samsung device coming out on AT&T in April.

What’s the big big with HUSPA? AT&T’s 3G sucks so bad that they are trying to buy T-mobile. SAD

    • numetheus

3G in my area using AT&T is a lot better than 3G with T-Mobile that’s for sure. T-Mobile had coverage that was all over the place, I might as well go with one of those cheap unlimited carriers like Cricket wireless. I was with T-Mobile for SEVERAL years through the VoiceStream days and beyond, and this purchase is a good thing. It’s actually a very bad carrier to be on if you are going to travel around the US. Terrible service.

How do you get this update? is it OTA?

    Another Android FAIL

no not android just at&t and moto… android has nothing to do with at&t capping/restricting or not providing the 4g speed. moto failed for lack of support and update. damn big red still on top of speed.

Name ONE SINGLE Android failure. ONE! I dare you!

        Ok, name 2 android failures.

Though that wasn’t an android failure. It was a Dell failure.

      • RH

Hey now! I love my dell streak!!!! :)
Once you realize that at&t could care less about it, and you root/update it from XDA-developers, it’s a great little “bastard stepchild” for Android LOL.

you are all idiots who think that not jumping on the AT&T 4G wagon is the right thing to do. Think about it. AT&T is the only company that has the backhaul infrustructure, financial backing, vendor support, and soon to be the largest footprint of any US carrier. Overall AT&T still tests faster than any other carrier nationwide on 3G. this is even compared to the so called 4G speeds of T-Mobile and Sprint. BESIDES, who would want to jump on a network that can’t support simultaneous voice and data on a 3G network? And… once the real 4G hits the carriers, AT&T will remain the only carrier to continue supporting that benefit. Drop out of a 4G area back to 3G on other carriers, i.e. Verizon, and you will drop your data/voice. Basically, you will only get to keep the voice part. once on that 3G network, AT&T will 1) keep the voice and data 2) still be over 60% faster than the other carriers on the 3G network.

Yes, AT&T has it issues. What carrier doesn’t?

    THINK ABOUT IT…….

Well consider users in places where AT&Ts 3g network has been, and largely remains, utterly atrocious, e.g., SF and NYC.

If AT&T STILL cant get their 3g network up to even mediocre standards for these users, said users (such as myself) may well be extremely cautious as to whether AT&T can get their true 4g network working properly, or if that will be an complete disaster like their 3g network, er, “netdontwork.”

Bite me once, your fault. Bite me twice…

    • Rock Me Like A Hurricane

Oh Bessey it’s ok. You love AT&T. Thats fine. Who the hell wants a fatser network when you only get 2gigs.

?Ok, finally we have open support for rooted phones ..

    • Bemani4u

No, this update disables root access to your phone. You’ll still see your Super User icon on your phone, but super user permissions will no longer work after this update… Still worth the update if you don’t mind losing root though.

      • Dharmon11

        how do you get this

      • Bemani4u

The information regarding what this update does is already out in the internet if you know where to look.

Folks., only the power of open and freedom would allow an OS as powerful as android to actually fix hardware on a phone (jacks). Apple would never ever be able to do that.

We have already tested tripling ram on phones via software updates. Amazing! Droimazing!!!!

  • kindongo

I’m doing a search with my ATRIX, and is not finding the update…Has anybody actually updated their ATRIX

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1450233070 Sam Sullivan

I read that it’s coming out tomorrow 3/29…I, however, wouldn’t know as I already have it (beta tester). Reading the comments it sounds as if others see its not released yet, check again tomorrow.
