LG to produce Nexus tablet for Google, suggests rumor

Tablets

According to intel acquired by blog Mobile Review, LG has been tasked with producing a pure-Google, Nexus tablet for the Mountain View-based Android maker. Details are scarce (and unconfirmed), but the site states that the device will be used as Google’s base for development, run the latest tablet-optimized operating system — Honeycomb (Android 3.0) — and should be ready in “mid-summer or early autumn.” It is important to keep in mind that this device could be an engineering prototype used by Google internally for Android tablet development. Either way, it is an exciting and juicy rumor.

Ummm….. the xoom is pure. And LG already has a pure tablet in the optimus. Soooo I’m not so sure about this rumor.

It’s more choice and competition which is good for the consumer.

I think that Samsung or HTC is gonna produce Google’s tablet. not LG Sorry

There is not one LG product that has been desirable. Please let this be made by HTC

But it’s LG. Which means… you go get it and let the rest of us know. Once I start hearing good things about LG, then I’ll be convinced.

They’re not Samsung. There’s the first good thing.

Performance wise the Optimus X2 just destroyed the Atrix, despite pretty near identical specs, shows they are doing something right. They do need better aesthetics though.

Well the good thing is at least the OS is ‘open….’ no wait, it’s not. Google is not distributing it to anyone else.

I agree with choice and competition, but let’s call a spade a spade. 3.0 is being distributed in the same manner as WinMo7.

As for LG. Never been impressed with their quality. Maybe it will be a step up because Google may have QA specs… but out of the gate LG is not my favorite phone/consumer HW vendor (and no, it’s not Apple… Sanyo made tank’s for phones, and actually had a nice function set).

Of course then we have the price, and the carrier bundle models. A lot of variables before this thing even gets to the dance. iPad2 will have shipped 10 Million units by the time this is shipped.

Apple shipped their phones and pads in March/April… why: Spring is the season for business purchases. Google and LG are targeting a consumer market in September (Mid summer is August according to the calendar… too late for your academic purchases, definitely too late for schools to test out software). If that schedule holds… they will be hitting the Holiday shopping season, after all businesses and schools have vetted iPad2 and OS4.3.x and possibly even iOS5.

So much for overcoming the early mover advantage.

If it’s coming in early autumn, it might come with Tegra 3. I hope it does, because a dual core chip would be very dissapointing by then, just like Nexus S was.

Wow, I think thats gonna be WAY cool

My XOOM is a pure Google tablet. For now at least. Will see what happens with the next update. Nice to see LG get serious about Android, some of the phones they released outside of the US were dead sexy.

Can they not decide on who they want to manufacture the Nexus brand? It’s just dumb to keep having different ones produce a ‘nexus’ device.

Keeping my eye on LG… if this Nexus Tablet happens hopefully Google lets them develop the new Nexus phone as well…getting updates directly from google without carrier bs is appealing

I think this blog is confusing the G-Slate, which is only a marketing name for the OptimusPad for T-Mobile.
