Apple to focus on iOS, Mac OS at WWDC; no iPhone 5 announcement?

mobile

Earlier today, Apple announced that it will be holding its annual Worldwide Developers Conference from June 6th to June 10th in San Francisco where it said that it will “unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS.” That suggests that Apple may stray from its usual schedule of announcing an updated iPhone during the show each year. “You get caught up in patterns, and it holds true, until it doesn’t,” Michael Gartenberg, an analyst with Gartner, told The Loop. “There is no reason for Apple to follow a predictable yearly pattern, and it keeps their competition off guard a little bit.” We’ll be honest, it would be pretty disappointing to many Apple fans if this deviation was true, but we’re skeptical. It makes perfect sense for Apple to announce the new hardware alongside an updated iOS platform with developers in the room. Why stray from what works?

They will announce it and you guys know it, this is just another ploy by blogs like yours and others to hype up the rumor mill and get more clicks.

    • Tim242

They may not. The Verizon iphone may change the schedule.

      • Anonymous

Since 80% of the iPhone users in the US are on AT&T and waiting to up their 3gs, they would be keeping the minority happy.

      • Tim242

They can upgrade to the iphone 4 and be just fine.

      • http://twitter.com/ajneuman Andrew Neuman

@Tim42 I have an iPhone 3GS and If I wanted a iPhone 4 I would have bought it at launch. I like iOS but, I’m hoping they redesign the iphone for the 5th gen iPhone and so are a lot of other people.

      • http://twitter.com/kathynhi__ k.van ;

Hopefully. I’ve been saving my upgrade for the 5. I’d be very disappointed if I had to wait any longer than June/July.

      • Johnathan

You do know there’s more carriers outside the US right? There will be an iPhone 5 this summer just like there has been for the last four years

      • Tim242

Thanks Steve Jobs or Tim Cook. Glad you’re here to enlighten us.

      • Anonymous

Verizon iPhone is one carrier in one country.
To the rest of the world there has been no new iPhone since last June.

  • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

LOL! Back to the drawing board for these idiots. They’ve accepted they can’t keep up with the DROID assault and have decided to focus on making their OS more like droid OS, which is perfection.

    • Get a life

Wow norm, are you serious? You look for stories that have nothing to do with you just to rant about the second coming of your cell phone brand? Either your phone is your religion, and you desperately need a life; or motorola is following in the footsteps of samsung, and hired some really bad actors to hype their brand.

    • http://twitter.com/_elemenopee_ Kavin Nguyen

Seriously Norm or Norm_4G_LTE. You do need a life. You’re the reason why I hate reading BGR. All you do is look for posts about Apple and talk shit about them. Even posts that are not related to Apple and you still find ways to talk shit. You have at least one comment in 90% of the stories on BGR, and they’re all Apple bashing. Get a fucking job man.

      • anDROIDfan

Funny,Norm or Norm_4G_LTE is the only reason I read these posts. He injects the right touch of what’s needed here.

      • http://www.droiddoes.com/ Norm

Well are you reading BGR or just the comments section? Please clarify. Also, you have the freedom and choice to skip past mine just like I will make note to ignore your personal hate rants.

Oh and I have a pretty good job, I just hate it. It bores me, too much free time, so hence why I take the time to make sure insecure children like you get bent out of shape.

Really? I’ve always assumed that he was sarcastically posting as a caricature of an android fanboy.

      • Dario69

I think that is GoogleFanHater, or something like that. I think Norm is a legit Android cheerleader. Norm doesn’t know what he is talking about so I take his advice and just ignore him.

      • Sonya

        You are correct.

For all you still haven’t got the point:

GoofanAKA (Apple hater) and Norm are being sarcastic. They do not love Android or “DROID” and most likely hate it. They are simply making fun of Android and it’s fanboys.

    • Anonymous

Were u fired from an apple store? Lol.

    • http://twitter.com/alv_rey Alvaro Rey

No, this guy is not bashing apple, This guy is an apple fanboy (troll). He just pretending to be an Android Fanboy to create the feeling that Android Fanboys are annoying (a lot of them are really irritating) and very stupid. That is the reason why he refers Android as Droid OS.

Dude you are pathetic how somebody posting in all the articles of this site and others doesnt know that Droid is just a line of smartphones from Verizon? Are you for real, how old are you?

      • Pleasedontaskme001

Hey! Don’t give these guys away!!!

    • TUPAPI

LOL. I like your new logo! Hahaha.. this guy makes me laugh +1 for you!

    • Anonymous

Wow norm, are you serious? You look for stories that have nothing to do with you just to rant about the second coming of your cell phone brand? Sounds like your phone is your religion, and you desperately need a life.

To quote a spot on poster.

  • http://twitter.com/valen2384 will Valentin

i actually think its because they are waiting for the new HTC phones and the new 3D phones coming out this summer. So they’ll just go ahead look at them and innovate from others innovation. Just like they been doing since iphone 3gs.

    • Newtonj

Retard the iPhone invited the touch phone.

      • Valen2384

Retard im not talking about that. Geez. Love how i get treated like shit when i myself own apple products. Besides the first touch phone invented was by ibm way back in 92. Iphone was the first to kick off the touchscreen revolution..

  • http://www.facebook.com/brandon.im Brandon Im

Honestly, if Apple makes their OS more like Android and accept Gmaps/Nav, i’ll be sold.

    • Anonymous

I don’t think Apple is to blame for not having full Google Maps & Nav on iOS, Google just doesn’t want it on the iPhones because it’s a selling point for their own mobile OS.

The ‘Maps’ application on the iPhone & iPad is just Google Maps by the way, just with less features.

  • EShine

Skeptical. So maybe i5 isnt a complete redesign, but is upgraded, much like the 3GS. Why would they hype that in a developer invite? A new one is coming.

  • iAmMrHD

I wouldn’t be surprised if Apple didn’t announce new hardware for WWDC. The iPhone 4 is still the best phone on the market overall. 4G is the only thing it’s really missing.

    • Anonymous

U must be confused about how a business works. iPhone 4 may be the best all around phone but i dont think apple would decide to delay a new phone because of that. I think they would want to continue to push out new products to stay popular. Look how fast RIM has fallen because of slow innovation

      • http://twitter.com/tarund TarunD

I wouldn’t call it a phone at all. It’s fancy iPod Touch with a GSM radio for which Apple doesn’t know how to write the baseband software for. As much time they spend on designing their hardware, if they spent half of that time writing better baseband, the “Phone” part might work.

Think about it, why do BlackBerry’s, Android and WP7 phones work better on AT&T? It’s because the hardware manufacturers know how to write the baseband software. It’s not AT&T or Verizon’s network that suck, it’s Apple that can’t write better software.

      • Anonymous

Well they are doing something right. Brainwashing, mind control.
Whatever. It’s a very popular “iPod” with a GSM radio. Btw. I’m a
        iPhone 4 user. :-)

      • Anonymous

I guess thats why every att phone I have ever had shoots half my calls straight to voicemail, right?

But my verizon iphone has never dropped a call, yet……

  • Scott

I have no doubt; they will announce the iPhone 5. It’s still 3 months away and we are already conjuring up silly rumors.

    • anDROIDfan

Actually just over 2 months away. Just saying.

  • Ex-Apple

Maybe those dopes at Apple realized their stock will go in the crapper if they announce a new iPhone and it doesn’t have 4G. With so many Verizon Android handsets sporting 4G, not to mention those in the pipeline, it would be commercial suicide to wait until mid-2012 to push out 4G.

Also consider how much data the typical iPhone user consumes vs. the typical smartphone user, lack of 4G would make last year’s “antennagate” seem like a ripple in the pond.

Android phones have already surpassed the iPhone in hardware specs. The OS issue is debatable, I have an iPhone but the latest Android phones from MOT, HTC and Samsung have impressed me – I’ll call it a draw. Apple still has an edge in apps but that is changing.

Little Stevie J better get his act together, or he’s going to have his ass handed to him by the market, and then by Wall Street.

  • http://twitter.com/dmcbride dan mcbride

I think because of the verizon iphone this could be right, even if its not i doubt it’ll be a redesign anyways something akin to 3gs.

  • Anonymous

Why why why would they announce iPhone 5? They always do it in the summer. Come on BGR, what are you, new?

  • Anonymous

It makes sense for a iPhone push back. The supply problems and the need for Japan to get themselves together, and the Verizon iPhone customers just having bought theirs.
Whatever problems with supply will not be exclusive the Apple as all handsets will face the same problems.

I really doubt that they would purposely miss the back to school and holiday shopping season, if that is the case, it would have to be of persisting supply issues.

  • Creediddy

As I said it time and time again, I believe Apple will release a iPhone 4G(S) version with dual core A5 processor (similar to iPad2) with 512 MB of RAM, Larger 4″ screen, with 32GB/64GB storage capacities. The current iPhone 4 16GB will be dropped to $99 as their entry level model. iOS5 may be available 3rd Qtr with the iPhone 4 and 4G(S) available for upgrade in iTunes. iPhone 5 makes sense for 2012 and not this year!

    That is my guess….

  • http://twitter.com/tarund TarunD

    This anal-yst is an idiot.

Apple not annoucing the next iPhone at this event like they have every year would be like Steve Jobs no longer wearing a turtle neck and jeans at every Apple event.

  • Anonymous

iPhone 5 is to soon. As much as you all like to think whatever apple makes the hoards will follow, you have to remeber there is a unique skill set invloved when hearding sheep. And in the case of product, people can and do get over shit when there is too much of it. Completlty believable, unfortunate but believable. “unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS” So the iOS ifacation of OSx ‘magical’ intergration.!! Thats on roster

    • anDROIDfan

iPhone 5 is to soon like BambooJackson is to GooFan Nation.

apple is to people like moses is to peasants

DROID OS is to smart phones like scent is to flowers

      • Anonymous

Excuse me if you are going to use internationally recognized brands such as Goofan (aka Apple Hater) Nation, please learn to write it first!

      • anDROIDfan

        Sorry!

      • Anonymous

        @anDROIDfan

For obvious reasons, you are forgiven.

  • Fauzi

AAPL would be crazy not to continue with iPhone 5. If that is true, stocks will take a big dump and i don’t think AAPL want to disappoint their investors.

Besides, that would give GOOG time to consolidate and strengthen their position.

    NO NO NO

  • No4G

Part of me thinks that the phone will be announced this summer, but it won’t be 4G if they can’t keep the current’s phone battery life.

  • Sugar Grove

keep slapping the inside of your forearm..
they got ya hooked now you need the fix.

  • apple or droid

There is no doubt at all that Apple will announce a iPhone 5 with a new line of ipods and the new ops will kill Droid if they want to stay in the game. And u might even see another iPad and MAC book line or MAC line

  • 1T2dirtnap

Hahaha… no stocks won’t “dump”. Millions of people are very satisfied with their 3G’s, 3GS and 4′s. People continue to buy them. Not ever human needs to have the latest and greatest hardware to live, unlike many of the BGR readers. Apple is smart and will release the next iPhone when strategically sound. Like another reader said I too would not be surprised if Apple does release an iPhone 4S with DC processor, 4″ display and maybe HSUPA support.

  • MJB12

Because there is no iPhone 5 yet!!! It’s still a long time coming.

  • Nölff

OK. Which one of you nerds wants to fight me? HIIYYAAA!!!

  • Yawn

All that means is they will focus more on the iOS improvements to the iPhone 5 and the hardware will remain mostly the same, just like the iPad.

  • Anonymous

I think they’re just waiting so they can release the “Steve Jobs Commemorative iPhone”.

  • http://twitter.com/CptOlimar2255 Calvin Poon

*Sigh* Really hoping they don’t change up the schedule, been holding off upgrading from my 2g for this! D:
