Amazon allows Android application ‘test drives’ via virtual machine

mobile

Here’s an interesting way to add value to your mobile application store, free test drives! An overlooked feature of Amazon’s new Android app store provides users with the ability to try both free and paid applications before making their purchase. Being referred to as “Test Drive,” the company is utilizing an Android virtual machine to allow users to preview applications, in the desktop browser, before purchasing on their mobile. While a VM can’t give you the complete experience, it definitely can aid in weeding out those applications that are duds. The online retailer boasts that it has “hundreds of apps to Test Drive,” with more on the way.

About damn time. I’m so sick of buying apps that have no support or suck. Thank God on iOS there aren’t many and usually it’s pretty easy to get a refund- But still. If an app has no reviews how are you supposed to know what’s up?

I don’t think so. I’ve been using an Inspire 4G for a few weeks now and can you … Android is DEFINITELY not leading the pack when it comes to apps. The apps are not as good as their iPhone counterparts in lots of cases, and if you love gaming on your device forget it. Android just plainly sucks. It’s getting better though. This is just a gimmick and nothing more. Overall though, Android is far superior to iPhone in lots of ways. Ahead on apps though? Not even close. I think people who say that have little experience on the iPhone side of the fence.

Very Very Very Good on Amazon’s part. Even better that their first run App Store APP is 100x better than the damn Market.

Are you certain it is an emulator or VM? Mine asks me first to update my version of Flash, which indicates it is running in Flash. My question is: is it a true VM, or is it just a rewrite of the game in Flash? Having an Android VM in Flash would be a big deal – it would mean that any PC or Mac or Win7 or BlackBerry device running Flash could run Android Apps, and that means a slap in the face to iOS devices which can’t run Flash….
