Apple iPad 2 launches internationally; ridiculous lines form in 25 countries [video]

Apple’s iPad 2 goes on sale Friday in 25 countries around the world, and early reports from Australia are showing monumental lines for Apple’s latest tablet. AFP quotes an Apple fan as having waited over 53 hours in line for the iPad 2 launch in Sydney, Australia, with hundreds of people waiting behind him. In addition to Austrlia, people have lined up across the globe and most are only hours away from bringing one home from the store — if inventory holds up. The list of countries where the iPad 2 is now available includes: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Czech Reublic, Denmark, Germany, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, Mexico, Norway, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

UPDATE: Hit the break for a video from Toronto, Canada sent in by a BGR reader. The video was shot of the Apple Store at the Toronto Eaton Centre, and it was taken at approximately 9:30 a.m. The iPad 2 doesn’t go on sale until 5:00 p.m.

    I take the ttc to work downtown, passing the eaton centre @ 5:30am and there were about 70~ people lining up outside in the cold

    more iLemmings…. order the damn thing online or wait 2 weeks and don’t stand in a line for 7 hours. Man stupid people irritate me. I swear people opt to stand in these lines just for the “experience”.

    wow pretty ridiculous to see what people will go through to get something that won’t even improve their life. Just goes to show how many people have just too much time on their hands! I must commend apple though on creating such a cult-like following!

    Whether people are in line for an iPad or the latest Star Wars flick… makes me wonder… don’t these people have jobs? Better yet… something better to do than “be the first” among one’s geek friends? It’s obviously not going to impress any chick whether you’re the first person to have an iPad 2 in a 50-mile radius (or about 80km for our neighbors to the north) or not.

      What does it matter to you how people choose to spend their time. If they want to take a vacation day from work to stay home and sit on the couch or wait in a line all day, who cares? You have different priorities than others. No better or worst, but different. Just because something isn’t important to you doesn’t mean it’s not important to others. Whether it’s this, an Xbox, playstation or any other thing people decide to spend their time on. What does it have to do with you?

    It’s funny to read the comments from people in here that can’t seem to stand the fact that Apple builds quality products, and those who know it, do whatever they need to do to get them. The rest keep dreaming and waiting, that maybe some day, Xoom, PlayBook, and all the other losers, are gonna outsell the iPad. Hahahaha….

    haha i have an android phone and i love it and i used to be a Apple hater but i recently got the ipad 2 (more for need than want because i’m developing an app) but i have to admit, the ipad 2 is pretty sweet.

    The thinness of the ipad 2 is pretty crazy and it makes a big difference. Also the amount of apps for the ipad 2 is really what i see sets it apart from the other tablets. Yea specs wise, the tab and xoom are better but until there are better android apps made specifically for tablets, the ipad will always be a better tablet.

    Ok I will start by stating I do own a ipad.

    But I have to seriously question whats wrong with society. When people will stand in line for countless hours for a product that…..

    Will it improve life? No

    Will it prolong life? No

    Will it promote world peace? No

    Will it end world hunger? No

    It is a one time only release? No

    So why would you stand in line for hours before it goes on sale with no promise that there is enough inventory. I know people hate the sheep comment but it kind of fits.

      They live their life through material possessions. This is worse than the people who line up for Black-Friday, because at least those people are going after savings, these people are lining up when they don’t even have to, they could have pre-ordered online! Or waited a week and walked in and out in 5 minutes.

      Who cares? Millions of people do nothing each day. Many decide to sit in front of a tv all day and some decide to wait in line. Neither one is saving the world so why is your beef with the people that are standing in line?

    I always do get a kick out of watching alllll you pathetic little fanboys/fangirls go on and on about which is better, android or apple. Get a fucking life for once. Each has its own pro’s and con’s.
    There’s no way in hell that I’d ever line up just to get the latest and greatest thing that’ll be obsolete in under 4 months (and NO, I’m NOT saying the ipad sucks). Wait a month and you’ll be able to stroll into the Mac store and pick one off of the shelves WITHOUT wasting a day doing nothing. Just sayin….

I was commenting on how sad it is that people actually waste valuable time in line for such a thing, when they will be able to get it without all the hassle in a month or so.         1) Are actually the one that needs to grow up

        AND

        2) Get WAY to emotional over inconsequential things

    Wow amazing Apple haters. Hey this is great news for you. This means you can go to any best buy and get your android tablet right away no lines, no wait, plenty in stock. But sooner or later you’ll see what the hype is all about and you too will be a apple fanboy just like many fandroids have. Jealous punks.
