Motorola investigates ATRIX 4G voice quality issues [updated]

mobile

The tension continues to mount. If you’ve had some trouble with the voice call quality on your ATRIX 4G, you’re not alone. A Motorola forum discussing the topic has over 16,000 views and most users are complaining that other callers are unable to hear them clearly, even after tweaking noise suppression settings. The good news is, one Motorola forum manager has confirmed that Motorola is aware of voice quality issues on the AT&T ATRIX 4G and the company is working on fixing the problem. Hopefully it’s just a quick software update, but the forum manager did say that there’s no clear indication as to the cause of the problem.

UPDATE: Motorola has issued the following statement:

Motorola Mobility is aware of a very small number of ATRIX 4G users who have reported low audio issues when placing voice calls. Motorola ATRIX 4G is designed and tested to meet our high standards for audio quality. As part of our longstanding commitment to delivering high quality products that our customers love, we believe in reacting even when identified issues impact only a handful of users. Motorola is evaluating further optimization of audio levels in a future maintenance release. Any consumer who experiences this issue should contact a Motorola customer support center.

Motorola takes great care to ensure devices are developed with quality in mind. We appreciate consumer feedback and will continue working to refine our product experience.

What’s wrong with companies today? Didnt Motorola do any QC testing on the phone, you know? By actually making a call?? Afterall it is a cellPHONE!!!

They’re so busy cramming in Tegra2, 1GB ram, webtop, they forgot about actually using it as a phone. Haha

      Don’t forget fake 4G

To be fair, fake 4G seems to be AT&T’s issue – both calling it 4G and restricting their fake 4G devices to lesser upload speeds.

The voice issue – at least they acknowledge and investigate. Some other companies deny, deny, deny.

Again… glad I kept my 3GS and will gladly wait for the next iPhone this year.

Lord knows, I’m no fan of the iPhone. But you have to give the boys in Cupertino their due. Apple makes a quality product.

Absolutely. Apple delivers fantastic quality during the moments where their product actually works correctly.

Just for the record, the thread about attempts at unlocking the bootloader on XDA has over 100,000 views…

Using an Atrix 4g since release and have had zero issues.

I’ve had an Iphone 4 since release and have had zero issues with the silly death grip issue.

Android has made phone manufactures lazy. They just wanna jam specs in the phone throw and free OS in and try to make a quick dollar.

Quality of hardware and software is why I use an iPhone

I can tell you now it’s ANDROID causing the problem. Just like every other Android phone released the Atrix is being devoured from with in. Android: The every hardware killer.

How embarrassing for Motorola. They launch a new flagship phone, with all the hype the blogosphere could possibly mount, and you can’t even make a decent phone call on it. I guess they never heard of the 6P Principle: Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

    I’m pretty sure it’s Steve Job’s doing.

Bought this phone Day 1, totally pumped. By day 2 I knew but was in denial. Day 3,4,5 more denial, doubt grew to anger and intolerance. Day 7, back to ATT where they waived the 35.00 restock fee when I demonstrated the shittiness. Blur sucks, moto sucks. Replaced with the HTC Inspire, lovely device, horrendous battery, back to iPhone 4. I know the Android folks hate the iPhone folks, but at least on ATT, there is no better Android alternative. Period

No voice problems with my Atrix. This definitely isn’t affecting all the phones.

Interesting that all the recent phones with voice call drops/problems appear to be on Cingular A.K.A. AT&T.
AT&T can’t even get The Motorola Atrix right and, therefore, they “disable” the much needed functionality that is built-in to a device like The Atrix so as not to confirm to their subscriber base and the World how pathetic its’ Network truly is. Then, of course, they point the finger at Motorola since, people who are probably buying The Atrix more than likely are buying an Android device for the very first time and will not know any better because they will have no basis of comparison with either Motorola or Android, especially if they’ve upgraded from an iCrap 4. NO, don’t hold it that way; hold it this way. Here’s a MicroCell Tower. Better??

    droooooiiiiidddd.

‘DOES’ not suffer from voice quality issues. CinguCrapp is just trying to pass the blame for having a sh¡tty network; same thing happened with the oRiGiNal iPhone, iPhone 3G,
      and iCaCa 4.

Surprise, surprise. I owned the Droid 2 Global (actually the 1st, the 1st replacement & the 2nd replacement) for a few weeks and what a Piece of Fucking Shit!!!!!!! It had the same voice quality issues, plus a whole lot more. Don’t worry though, I was assured it’s ‘fixed in the next release’. Yeah, right. Just like they are going to make Exchange mail work, even though that’s been broke since the Droid 1 shipped in November 2009. Motorola used to be a good company and now it seems all the make is shit products. I was recently in Detroit on business and noticed all the run down and boarded up businesses because Detroit made shit cars and everyone started buying Japanese, Korean and European cars (I have two Japanese in my garage).

My POS Droid 1 is now officially retired as of this afternoon, replaced by a nice Taiwanese phone, the HTC Thunderbolt.
