Motorola, AT&T prep ATRIX 4G software update; won’t enable HSUPA

Motorola on Wednesday announced the pre-release of a software update that will ultimately find its way to ATRIX 4G devices across the country in the near future. In a call for beta testers on the company’s support forum, Motorola announced that it is seeking 1,000 ATRIX 4G users to test a pre-release version of the device’s first software update. The big question on users’ minds, of course, was weather or not the update would enable HSUPA. Many ATRIX 4G users have openly complained of slow upload speeds, and over 1,100 people have signed a digital petition in protest of AT&T’s disabling of HSUPA on the device. AT&T would later confirm that HSUPA had been disabled on the ATRIX, though the carrier did note that full 4G upload speeds would be enabled on the smartphone in the future. Responding to questions in the call for beta testers, a Motorola rep identified as Mark (Forums Manager) confirmed that this first software update for the ATRIX will not enable HSUPA. “HSUPA is not included in this update though a future update will enable it,” the rep wrote on the forum. “More details to come from AT&T.” Registration for the software trial is open until 12:00 p.m. EDT on Friday.

    ‘full 4G’ would probably crash the entire network; much like when they flipped the switch from 2G to 3G a couple of years back, didn’t many parts of the country, including NYC, have a network blackout?

    Ok they not gonna enable hsupa but are they gonna enable hspa+? Also they should enable webtop and entertainment option via any hdmi display and the docks should be the better option for those who want its.

        Haha at first I was trying to figure out what you were talking about, then your blatant fanboyism showed and I realized you were bashing a tablet that has nothing to do with a MaxiPad, Atrix, or this conversation in geneal.

        You fail, just like your OS your phone. You obviously are trying hard to find negatives about a company instead of a product.

        Let me school you, Android doesn’t properly mount the /system while booting resulting in drainage of battery and force close issues. iOS does and boots like a charm everytime and no force closing.

        Android cannot provide a universal market experience and has a about 5 dfferent versions of the market, each for a different android version.

        I don’t need to root my device to make it work like advertised. iWin.

        I could go on and on but it’s like beating a dead horse.

        At the end of the day android is for little boys and geeks. I’m a man and don’t have hours to dedicate to pushing adb commands to my phone to get the latest version of android, I have a life. You should try and get one, you might do something useful.

    Mine is going back today, my POP email won’t send emails and I get random dropped calls on the microcell.
    Plus sometime people can’t hear me on the other side and I found out that’s a common bug.

    My current understanding about HSUPA is that it is based on the physical layer 1. It requires hardware. I didn’t see anything in the Motorola specs about HSUPA. The Atrix itself is an awesome phone. It’s just a little ahead of the network. Give it a few months while the 4G network catches up.

    Well no H+ is the reason I brought it back. What a whack half ass phone! The Atrix had all the tools to be extremely successful, however at&t is still bending over for the Fruit and all those POS iPhones on they’re network. Done with at&t, pretty happy with my Thunderbolt.

      H+ actually hasn’t been turned on yet on the network. They are waiting until they get more markets and testing done.

    This is one of good reason to say “no” to ANY acquisition from “suck ass and ass”.
    Remember that, Android phones sold from “suck ass and ass” are badly crippled to nothing!
