LG’s inductive Wireless Charging Pad for Verizon Wireless hands on!

CTIA

We met up with LG on Tuesday to check out its inductive Wireless Charging Pad, which it hopes will compete against competitors like Powermat. During our hands-on, we weren’t able to test the device — it seems someone forgot to charge the charger — but we were able to get a feel for its size, weight and some of its features. The Wireless Charging Pad has a power indicator that alerts you just how much power is left, and LG says it takes about two hours to charge itself up fully. All you have to do once it’s juiced up is pop a special back onto your smartphone and drop it onto the charging pad. In our eyes, the Wireless Charging Pad wasn’t a whole lot different than the Powermat; it’s light in the hand and can easily be packed in a briefcase, backpack or even a Florida tourist-friendly oversized fanny pack. LG hasn’t said which of its phones the Wireless Charging Pad will be compatible with just yet, but we think it’s a little counter intuitive for LG to make it only compatible with LG phones. Don’t forget to check out our photo gallery below!

    Stock Android, so good looking.

Yep that stock is nice. Im not sure about the pad charging though considering every phone ive owned i had in a case to protect it. With that, its not an option for me. This LG phone very well could be though. My TBolt is nice & dual core isnt totally relevant to me (for now) but after more uses come for it, ill be happy to jump on. Got another upgrade coming the first week of June & if that phone is “skinless” it might take the throne!

IMO it’s better to buy a wired portable charger. It’s a lot more efficient than a wireless, and you don’t need a special case. I have a Sleep n’ Charge port on my Toshiba (USB that is powered all the time) and can charge my iPhone while walking, on the bus, anywhere really. And can charge way more times that I could with one of these toys. I understand people don’t really want to get a laptop backpack and carry that around (in that case, get a portable battery charger, wired of course) but it’s yet another better and cheaper option. For me these things are just cool gadgets at the moment.

I don’t think the phone in the pic is the Revolution because in one pic #3 there is a TegraZone app that I believe is for Tegra based handsets only. Can anyone confirm or deny that statement?

Hey BGR that’s great you are showing us the charging thing, using a Verizon phone…by the way what phone are you charging on that charger? Is it the Droid x2? Funny how you are testing phones at BGR and at Engadget and did not tell your readers about these phones…
