Hands on with Sprint’s HTC EVO 3D, again [video]

CTIA

Building on our coverage of the HTC EVO 3D from yesterday, we have a supplementary video that we would like to submit as evidence. While we weren’t allowed to navigate the device’s beta operating system with our own hands, an HTC representative was more than willing to give us a quick tour of the new features. The new lock screen, new homescreen layout, and general specifications of the phone are all covered in the clip. We tried to get HTC to comment on the expected battery life and capacity of the EVO 3D, but company reps just wouldn’t budge. Hit the jump to check out the hands-on video.

I cannot WAIT for this to come out, awesome lockscreen idea

    • Cer

It’s similar, although different, than WinMo’s Sense, where if you got a new email or voicemail you could press the lock button, and the mail icon would drop down, and you could swipe the mail icon to unlock and it would take you directly to your mail.

It’s surprising it’s taken them this long to implement a way to not always go to the homescreen on Android sense.

    So overexaggerated and boring-.-

True dat! 3D on a 4inch screen is just plain silly! Now, on a 64inch screen it’s pretty neat, but smart phones are just too small to warrant a 3D display. UNLESS YOU CAN TOGGLE IT! (like on the Nintendo 3DS) If you could toggle it at least on and off, not necessarily in varying degrees of 3D, then I could see it being a “selling point.” For example: “My screens got a 3D display which automatically makes it better than yours!” “Oh yea? Well mine has 3D too, I just have it turned off because it “wastes battery life, doesn’t look that great on the app I’m using, etc.” If we had the option to use either 3D or 2D, then I can see this being a cool feature, but if there is no ability to toggle, its just another stupid gimmick! Just my 2cents! : )

There is a toggle switch for 2d/3d on the side.

      • Anonymous

that switch is for the 3d cameras. to toggle between 2d and 3d on the screen itself you still have to go to settings and switch it there

Well, it’s Android so you have a few options. You can make a button on the homescreen to toggle it, you can use Tasker to automatically toggle it depending on what you’re doing (car docked, certain apps open, playing video, etc.), or most likely, apps will specifically request to turn it on and off. An *option* never hurt anyone. I would definitely like to see a 3D video shot by the EVO3D on a large 3D screen though.

        It’s all in the Toggle! : )

Are you from Nashville, TN. I live in Murfreesboro.

keeping lips closed regarding battery life isn’t a good sign, esp since the new processor is supposed to help with battery life.

Can’t wait for XDA to port the new sense to the original EVO… :)

I thought there was a bunch of sense 2.0 ports for the evo. They usually have “z” in the name because they come from the desire z.
myn’s warm z I know is sense 2.0. I’ve run a couple z roms on my incredible, a couple of which were evo ports if I’m not mistaken.

  • Cer

    “That’s awesome!”

  • Amber Lamps

    Nice ring.

  • Sonya

I really like the new Sense UI, I would port it to my iPhone if I could.

  • Rocker

Gears on a clock??..Give me 10hours of battery life over that any day.

    • Cer

But without the clock gears, what will the EVO 3D be able to say in its “If you don’t have an EVO 3D” commercials? I mean, without the gears, it’s just an iPhone imitation!

The 3d display is parallax-barrier, right? Does that mean the 3D effect will only work in landscape mode, or just one orientation? Or can they do both orientations? Sorry, I’m fairly inexperienced when it comes to display technologies. :)

  • RAY

I just got a “HARD ON” LOL I’M AN ORIGINAL EVO AND YES I WILL GET THIS 1 GOOD JOB SPRINT.

    • Geuest

I looks like the 1st EVO and It’s no iPhone. Seems like its the iPhone or nothing for this EVO user.

      • Deval

You mean the iPhone4 vs the EVO 3D? Wow…it’s not even a comparison

  • Josiah Lambert

Love my Evo, and I have an upgrade coming up… but if there isn’t a BIG improvement in battery life, this is a no-go for sure. The existing battery life is already a real drag — and that’s WITHOUT all this cool 3D tech.

I hope a version of this phone comes to Verizon. I might just use my Best Buy trade in for  this.
