Mozilla announced on Tuesday that the final release version of its Firefox 4 Web browser was available for download. Within its first 24 hours of availability, the browser was downloaded over 6 million times. Microsoft’s latest browser release, Internet Explorer 9, was downloaded 2.35 million times in its first 24 hours of availability. Version 4 of the popular Firefox Web browser features a variety of enhancements including a redesigned UI, improved tab management and faster performance. Mozilla’s Firefox browser is the second most popular browser in the world according to market share tracker Net Applications. Firefox held a 21.74% global browser share in February, behind Internet Explorer’s 56.77% and ahead of No. 3 browser Chrome, which has grown to 10.93% in a very short period of time. Both Internet Explorer and Firefox have seen their shares decrease over the past year, while Google’s Chrome browser and Apple’s Safari browser have gained popularity. Hit the break for a video highlighting Firefox 4′s new features.

uh. are you talking about the tabs being cramped? you can open many sites. just right click a tab and choose “show tabs on a separate row”

active x filtering is automatically enabled by default for security reasons. try turning off active x filtering whenever something doesn’t display properly

Far from it: I wouldn’t buy a mAxiPad 2 with a 0.30 Pixel Front Facing Camera, incapable of rendering Flash content or “Full” web browsing, or without the ability to utilize interchangeable and upgradeable memory if you paid for it. I stopped using IE when Chrome was released; it was always buggy and crash-prone. I actually was excited to hear about IE9 and how light it supposedly is but, I refuse to be forced to upgrade to W7; that’s already an indicator that it’s not cross-platform friendly and it’s code only has true support for W7. It’s like a tyrannical dictator imposing rule, one of the reasons I don’t care much for crApple.

Now to make the editors happy say “oleophobic, oleophobic, oleophobic” and tap your heels thrice.

Probably a result of firefox actually letting you know there is an update available, as opposed to IE which includes it with your windows update. That said, ff4 is sweet

Firefox 4 is great. Since IE9 is just for windows 7, are there any information about how many downloads from firefox on windows 7?

They would have had millions more DL’s if it were PPC compatible. BUT I would surmise that a good portion of the now 7 million DL’s are people that were led to believe by the line under the DL link, “All Platforms” and no further “openly visible” system requirements, that this is PPC compatible. But it isn’t and that would in turn add false numbers.

Eventually this will be revealed and it will come out in the wash. OR Mozilla can be just as sneaky as they were when they dropped PPC support without notice and maintain the numbers are “valid”. Although they are not.
