CTIA

Following a number of overnight announcements from buzzing carrier T-Mobile, pricing has been confirmed for two anticipated devices set to launch this spring. First up, the T-Mobile Sidekick 4G will cost $99.99 after rebate on a new two-year contract. Built by Samsung, the new Sidekick will feature Android 2.2, a slide-out QWERTY keypad, a 3.5-inch TFT display, a 1GHz processor, a 3-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera for video chat. Also priced was T-Mobile’s upcoming G-Slate by LG. The tablet will run $529.99 after rebate with a two-year contract for data service, and specs include an 8.9-inch HD display capable of 3D playback, a dual-core 1GHz Tegra 2 processor and the Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) operating system. Both devices will be available this spring, though specific release dates have not yet been revealed.

    $529 on contract……

    No thanks!

It is a lot, but it’s still cheaper than Verizon’s $600 price for the Xoom (but you do get more inches to 10.1) on contract.

I can’t understand getting a tablet on contract…..in a year and half that thing will be out dated but you’ll still be stuck with it.

More like in 6 months it’ll be outdated. I would assume tablets will get better at the same rate if not close to that of cell phones.

Agreed.. I see no point in buying a Tablet on contract.. Just goofy… I would guess most people that buy a tab will want the next bigger, better, thing in 8 months when the new set of tablets are announced or are released. I am in no hurry to drop 600-800 (not including tax) on a tablet, especially an ipad 1.5 when apple will announce the ipad 3 in 8 months. Also, my wife has an iphone-and i do not see why we would need both. The Xoom did seem neat and fast when I toyed with it

$530 after rebate and on 2 year contract….
how is that compelling compared to either an iPadv2 or a cheap $199 (all in) Android tablet from Merimobiles etc direct from China with the same specs?

I just picked up a brand new iPad 1st gen with leather case for $300…now that’s a good deal. I’ll wait til iPad 3 before looking at shelling out $500+

Didn’t they know that Apple are now selling iPhones! *Sarcasm*

Looks ugly and bulky, and just says something about the touch screen if you still need a qwerty keyboard.

As for the tablet….. Don’t get me started!

apparently not the brightest crayon in the box if you don’t know about the structure of the sidekick in the past and what they are aiming for… it would not be a sidekick without that qwerty keyboard. it would be yet another mytouch.

Maybe its me, but does anyone ever use a cell phone really nowadays ? Take for example the iphone, its an arcade that can make phone calls. Now, the Sidekick, all versions after Sidekick 2, was/is very useful. I have a Sidekick 2008, I upgraded to it from the I D because I was tired of carrying my camera a round with me. Sidekicks are great cause of their keyboard. Wish the iphone had a keyboard like this, so I cam buy one.

There was word some where online that ALL Sidekicks services will be discontinued on May 31, 2011. Is this true? So what about all those loyal customers who still have a Sidekick no matter what version. Is or will there be a place where you can..1. verify that you are a customer with an open account. 2. trade in your old device and get a discounted price with an open account thats verified on a Sidekick 2011 ? All of this is still up in the air, cause AT&T just bought or in the works of purchasing T-Mobile.

      TO MJCHAPPELL,

yeah, it is true that ALL sidekicks services will be discontinued. Until April 5 (I believe or it’s April 15), you can get 50% off from selected samsung phones.
