AT&T Acer Iconia Tab A501 hands-on!

Lurking in the corner of an AT&T media meet-and-greet, we spotted the recently announced Acer Iconia Tab A501 tablet. Set to launch in Q2 of 2011, the Iconia tablet is an Android 2.2 device with an NVIDIA Tegra 2 1GHz dual-core processor, a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and an HDMI-out port capable of 1080p video playback. The device has a weight comparable to the XOOM and G-Slate (feels a tad bit heavier) and has a form factor that lends itself to the portrait orientation. The unmodified Froyo operating system that the tablet we handled was running was a bit quirky to say the least, and we experienced lags while scrolling through basic menus and attempting to utilize the tablet’s multitouch capabilities. AT&T did tell us that the software version we got to demo was not final, so hopefully these wrinkles are all ironed out in the coming months. Pricing has yet to be disclosed, so we’ll wait to pass final judgement on the Iconia. In the meantime, be sure to check out our gallery!

PS i’m a system intergrader, i know hardware better then apple, 8 years back the fastest arm was 100mhz and that’s can’t run anything more then a windows mobile.         touch screen phone in the 1980s, really, would you be kind enough to show us your amazing 1980 technology. If i remember correctly the Imac that our school ordered and sent back 800 units just because when you hit the on buttons they caught fire, we switched to linux PC. Also before you claim Apple made the the elements and the space-time i should tell you, apple lost the war for computers and electronics very early in it’s fight because of shody hardware and software. Current apple products are only copies of other products made before them and you claim it’s revolutionary or you invented it ?? no if i had a touchscreen symbian phone 5 years before the iphony that makes you claim to have invented the touchscreen phone pretty stupid. Also claiming that apple somehow changed the world with the ipad is retarded. Tablets were here way way before ipad. They ware known as shenzhen tablets with android 1.5 to 2.2 on them with a variety of hardware. this is since 2005. Apple is being sued for copying their design. And the signature square button is from the sony playstation, another original invention by apple sad sad pathetic people

        I know what you mean. Seriously, even the Nook Color can (albeit unofficially) have Honeycomb and yet they still try to give us 2.2 on NEW products? Something’s seriously wrong here.

It’s probably because that’s not actually 3.0, but Froyo. I’ll just assume that you tested some different Acer tablet was actually running a wonky Honeycomb, but just placed a photo of a prototype without. Haha
