Verizon-branded Xperia Play rears its head at CTIA

CTIA

At a Verizon Wireless media event this evening, we happened to spot a Sony Ericsson Xperia Play handset showing off its freshly inked Verizon tattoo. The device — which was tipped for a Verizon launch by third-party retailer Wirefly back in February — is not new, but the Verizon branding and Gingerbread operating system definitely are worth mentioning. We tried to pin Verizon down on a launch timeframe, but all we could get was a “coming soon” from the company’s PR folk. We snapped a dozen or so images for your review, enjoy.

I really can’t tell what the future of this phone is going to be. It’s either destined for success or epic failure. It reminds me of the n-Gage. It never really found a market. Smartphones, however, were not as popular as they are today.

Maybe Verizon has a “kiddie” play phone area…They should market it through Toys R Us .. Where All the Kids Shop…

Get branded phones out of my face – one thing we can all agree with Apple on – No stupid “intel inside” stickers on MBP and not AT&T branding on the iphone.
