It may soon be possible for you to own your own slice of the Angry Birds empire. Days after announcing $42 million in Series A funding, Rovio’s board chairman has expressed interest in seeking an initial public offering in the United States, according to statements made to Finnish business magazine Talouselama. “The plan is to seek an IPO in New York, but the specific timing and details are still open,” Ville Heijari, a Rovio spokesperson confirmed to Reuters in an email on Friday. Angry Birds has been a smash hit since its launch, and has boosted its fan base by issuing frequent seasonal updates across multiple platforms.

Good for them! These guys are gaming geniuses, they showed the world that you don’t need cutting-edge graphics or huge budgets to make a game that’s entertaining and addictive.

Gaming geniuses? They made one good game – i don’t know of any others. Just because one game was a hit doesn’t mean the rest will be as well.

they used box2d game engine to make millions. and yet they did not even acknowledge/attribute to the box2d creators in their game disclaimer/description/etc. #SHAME

I’m sick of hearing about this game.

Tech bubble 2.0 another company attempts to file an IPO during their 15 mins of fame. Sounds familiar right? Best examples are Facebook, Skype, twitter hulu etc all àätempting to go public. And probably a few might be left standing.
Remember Sun Microsystems, Jdsu, juniper etc?

IPO after one game. Sounds like a great idea. Now everyone say it with me: Tech Bubble 2.0!

And this game came out a freaking year ago. Even AAA titles don’t have that kind of staying power. Angry Birds needs to die.

I think these guys are great but I’m surprised how far they are stretching the angry birds ‘platform’.
