Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 beta launches with Facebook Chat

mobile

RIM has made Facebook for BlackBerry, version 2.0, available via its BlackBerry Beta World portal. The latest update includes support for Facebook Chat and messages — which will now automatically land in your unified mailbox. Provided that you leave yourself signed in, the app will automatically notify you of new chat messages, even if you don’t have the app open. We can’t tell you how many times we’ve accidentally “Liked” a random friend’s status while scrolling through our Facebook News Feed, so a revamped layout that prevents this from occurring is certainly welcome. It’s also now possible to check-in, update your status, or post photos, directly from the top of your News Feed. Facebook for BlackBerry 2.0 offers revamped navigation controls, and a new notifications bar that looks a lot like the “Today View” in BlackBerry 6. Lastly, the profile view has been tweaked, and now allows users to toggle between wall, info, and photo tabs on a friend’s page.

The last one to jump in the pool? eh RIM?

Well cool for them and those waiting for it. Took a long time coming.

But i don’t use facebook so it’d be no benefit to me at all.

Actually RIM had one of the first integrated mobile Facebook clients. It just sucked. 2.0 looks like it brings some much-needed improvements.

Actually RIM was the last to jump in the pool with the native chat feature built into the application.

Hince “the Last on in the pool”

True for chat, I thought of that after I posted. I read the original comment to apply to the facebook client overall

I tried just now, it is awesome and indeed it is the best FB chat on a mobile device so far I have seen and even better than Android and iOS.

At least their Facebook client works (push) compared to the Android version.

      and apple put together

  • numetheus

Sweet! It no longer looks like an old 1990′s app and more early 2000′s! If it wasn’t for RIM’s expensive BES licensing and corporate contracts, RIM would not be doing very well at all. I know they are dumping BlackBerry OS for QNX, but that should have been done a long time ago.

At least get the facts correct… Over the last several quarters, 80% of RIM’s unit sales are consumer devices and 20% enterprise. Also, while RIM’s market share has declined in the U.S., their growth outside of the U.S. (ie. the rest of the world!!) has more than made up for any lost share. All of you haters who think RIM will be dead in two years just don’t get it… record revenue (and no debt), record profit, record unit sales, new products launching (including the Playbook and Bold Touch), and last but certainly not least, a new OS running on QNX. The facts speak for themselves and RIM will be even bigger in two years!

      • Lolmoney

QNX is almost 31 years old, why should I care now ?

      • Qnx

        because QNX does your mother

      • Anonymous

Don’t be so naive, read a little about QNX and where it is used.

      • Anonymous

and they are going to be here for another 31. this is what QNX is about can Apple do this:
