Netflix APK for Android leaked, lacks streaming support

mobile

The Netflix APK has been pulled from a prototype of the LG Revolution, the first Android smartphone to offer full Netflix support, by a guy named Alex Smith. And thanks to Mr. Smith’s handiwork, the Netflix APK is now readily available to anyone who wants to give it a whirl, but you’ll only be able to use it to manage your Netflix queue and browse movies. The app alerts you that it “could not reach the Netflix service,” if you try to stream a movie, which is probably due to the DRM issues that have been responsible for a full Netflix on Android client delay in the first place. Netflix has yet to publicly disclose when a fully functioning client would be available for the Android platform.

But I don’t want to pay more to use PlayOn!

I actually use Netflix quite a bit on my iPhone. More than I thought I would. It goes right in line killing my production at work with infinity blade and other games! Lol

I’d hope to see Netflix on more devices.

It’d my understanding that the thunderbolt will be the 1st android to support Netflix. Also, the moto bionic will not support Netflix (according from that tweet from HTC exe)

Wouldn’t it “lack streaming support” if the option were missing entirely? Sounds more like it’s a work in progress to me – considering that it’s leaked, it’s entirely possible that the back-end services at netflix simple aren’t yet enabled.

Did you guys even read the article? The apk was pulled from a prototype phone – whos primary selling point is full featured Netflix support. It’s all in beta – and, again as the article says, DRM issues are prohibiting streaming atm.

I downloaded the apk last night for my Streak and it looks great. I could manage my queue and browse the instant titles – just couldn’t play anything.

Wait, you are expecting the morons that comment on BGR to actually read the articles before 1) getting into a flame war 2) post comments on how much a product, clearly marked as pulled from a prototype and not yet enabled, sucks because it doesn’t work?

      Ha ha ha ha
