Images of Motorola’s Daytona, DROID 3, and LTE Targa surface online, headed to Verizon

mobile

Howard Forums member wnrussell has treated us to images of three unannounced handsets from Motorola — all of which look set to launch on Verizon Wireless sometime in the future. Details are scarce on all three devices, but we gain a bit of information from looking at the photographs. Above is a handset being called the Motorola Targa. It looks to be an LTE, Android device with an HDMI-out port and front-facing camera. Several Howard Forums members performed some CSI-style enhancements to the image and believe the camera sitting behind that rear protrusion reads “13MP” — 13 megapixels. Next on the list is a handset being called the DROID 3. The image of the DROID 3 was provided a la carte with no details, but we can see that the device appears to have a much thinner screen wrapped in an attractive chrome bezel along with a front-facing camera. The last image is a handset that looks nearly identical to the current DROID X, and was posted as having the name Daytona. The device is running Android 2.2.1 and bears the model number MB870 — the original DROID X has a model number of MB810. We’re not really sure about this handset, as it doesn’t seem as though it will serve much of a purpose with this Targa character hanging around. It could, however, be an earlier prototype that has been scratched. It’s pretty exciting stuff for those Motorola DROID fans out there. Hit the jump to check out the additional images.

I would love to buy a Moto again to replace my current OG Droid….but give me stock or give me death…..

Looks like Droid 3 has no keyboard. THANK GOD!… I’m still waiting for Bionic. I’m fine with MotoBlur. I just hope Verizon sells these no more than $199 That Thunderbolt price tag of $249 is a rip off.

Droid 3 totally looks like it has a keyboard, why else would it have that slight protrusion underneath the chrome bezel?

I hope Droid 3 launches before tiered data pricing – I would like to jump from Sprint and go to Verizon, unless Sprint announces some huge bombshells about the Evo 2 or something at CTIA.

        Oh, i see it. BOOOOOO.

    Droid 3 or Nexus S 4G…. Hmmmmmm

Is 13MP really necessary in a phone? Not to mention it makes for quite a giant bulge at the top. Also the bottom portion (keyboard?) of the Droid 3 looks thicker than my Droid1. Perhaps its just how the picture was taken. Hopefully they leave the bootloader unlockable like in the Xoom or as easily rootable as the original Droid. Still waiting on the Thunderbolt myself..but that new Incredible looks decent as well if it launches soon.

It’s just the megapixel wars all over again. They did it for digital cameras, and now they’re doing it for cell phones. Nokia was/is the only company to ever realize that a good lens is infinitely more important than the number of megapixels. All that means is that your blurry image can be printed at 8×10 instead of 4×6.

      • Hudie27

Well the Droid 2 took the same 5 megapixal camera from the Droid 1 and improved the lens on it. That is why it has a much better photo then the MOTO1. I am excited for the better cameras because I am to the point of just carrying my phone and only take my camera on special occasions where I will need a good zoom….can’t wait to see what phone can do in 3 to 5 years……lol

They certainly improved it, but the D2 still takes terrible pictures unless you’re in an environment that’s got a lot of natural light — and that’s coming from someone who has owned two.

Between the locked bootloader, the camera, and the desire to use Cyanogenmod (which seems to be the baddest of badass custom ROMs around), Motorola has all but guaranteed that my next cell phone purchase will be with HTC.

Verizon gives android a bad name. Droid? Why not call it roid like the pain in the ass verizon really is? Roid hurts.

Despite what Verizon has become, Android is largely successful due to the marketing blitz of Verizon.

    • Anonymous

DROID DOES!!!! The whole world loves anDROID because of VZW introducing DROID to the world.

    • Anonymous

Well someone fails at being a Star Wars fan.

    • Hudie27

I don’t want to confuse you with the facts but the Android OS was out on another carrier for a while before verizon picked it up and no one even heard of it….Verizon saw the potential and made it what it is…..Verizon didn’t give it a bad name. Verizon is the reason it has a name it the market at all…..

  • Sean76

LOL…and still no official word for the Thunderbolt? Vzw u are run by Morons.

    • Tee

You’re either blind or dumb. All you need to do is go to verizonwireless dot com if you want an “official word” on the Thunderbolt… or follow @VerizonWireless on twitter. Either way, you can feel free to open mouth, insert foot.

      • Anonymous

Or ask me, the VZW DROID division section chief.

    • Hudie27

Yeah Verizon is run by morons and the marketing team sucks too. that must be why everywhere you look people are talking about the devices and fighting over when it will come out. Let’s look at the facts. Verizon stated the Thunderbolt will be out in the 1st quarter and all be damn it is being released this month (just so you know march is in the 1st quarter). So this phone is in every blog and report from false bs reports while Verizon stayed true to their projected launch…and the marketing is practically done for them. Sounds like your morons are geniuses Andy just might fall into the moron slot…..of and after all you pitching make sure you post how much you love your thunderbolt when you buy one.

  • Sin City

Yeah Motorola, way to stop your losses by spreading your high end devices to the multiple carriers. You’ve proved by creating an even sicker phone to the Verizon’s Bionic, the Daytona, also heading to Verizon.

  • Tomm

I think this should offically be “NORM DAY”

I can’t wait to hear his opinion.

Still has that god awfull tumor growing on the back. If Motorola would make a device with a 4.3 in. screen on verizon without the stupid bump… I will be first in line. Until then… HTC

  • Anonymous

Until Motorola changes their attitude towards hackers I will never buy another Motorola product. Let me void my warranty but don’t intentionally break my phone when I hack it.

  • Mr. Droid

Can’t wait to see these phones when they come out, Moto makes great solid phones. Viva Droid!

  • http://rmbo47.myopenid.com/ rmbo47

Hey, Moto! What’s with the hump?

13 MP seems too good to be true,
look closer how a 13 and an 8 look very very similar. when pressed together, and very blurry.
