Breaking

Let the rumors be put to rest. Wirefly just lit up our inbox with the news that the HTC ThunderBolt — Verizon’s first LTE handset — will begin shipping on March 17th with pre-orders beginning at 3:00 a.m. EST tomorrow morning. The company also confirmed that the handset will not ship with Verizon’s version of Skype Mobile, but will have the ability to handle simultaneous voice and data. We’ve reached out to both Verizon and HTC for confirmation. The full text of the email is after the break.

The wait is over!!! The HTC ThunderBolt is about to strike!

Wirefly will begin taking pre-orders at 3 a.m. EST tonight (aka midnight tonight Pacific time) .

At that time, this will page update to “Pre-order” status. Your fans can click through this page to find out our special price and pre-order their phone tonight.

Approved pre-orders will begin shipping March 17.

No Skype, as previously reported, but … simultaneous voice/data capability is alive and well! Don’t forget 40GBs of storage … out of the box.

And, of course, with 4G LTE speed, this has to be the best phone on the market to date.

Well, I am not staying up until 3am to pre-order a phone that maybe available. But I do hope this is really the release of the phone.

  • Dreedy Android

I hope this is true but I will believe it when I see it in the stores and in my hands.

  • JL44516

if they have news on the availability shouldnt they also have information on the data plans?

  • http://twitter.com/KheenMachine Kheenan

wait voice and data using their 3G or does it have to be over 4G?

    • http://twitter.com/DavisDarvish Davis Darvish

over 3G and 4G. This is rocking the first ever SVDO chip which allows simultaneous voice and data over VZW 3G network.

    • Bigq548

it will work on 3G but verizon basically said it will suck, so i would bank on it dropping some calls

  • viewthis66

great news! can’t WAIT to get my new phone. i’ve had this pre-ordered at BB since day one.

Isn’t this a year old EVO with a 4G radio?

    • Evilempire

NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!! It has a 2nd gen processor and it’s has an updated verison of HTC Sense which is the best UI on hte market today. Please stop with Evo thing it’s just old!

    • Tim242

Your ignorance and stupidity shines. Evo quadrant 1100, Thunderbolt 2000. Evo plastic, Thunderbolt Aluminum. More RAM, more storage, 32 Gig SD. Lte, better screen (SLCD), new Sense, better camera sensor, better network. This phone pwns the Evo, and iphone in every way. Get educated, fool.

    • http://twitter.com/BillySuede Billy Suede

ignore the trolls who keep calling it a year old evo. simply clueless.

  • IPwnAndroid

Love how Fandroids posted saying people were dumb for getting a 8 mo old iPhone 4 when they all flood to get a 1 year old product *cough* Evo *cough*

There is a bit of a difference in getting a 9 month old iPhone because it’s white now, and getting the TB which sports a newer snapdragon, more ram and something called LTE. It’s basically the same as the transition from iPhone to iPhone 3g and wasn’t that hailed as the greatest phone ever?

      • Evilempire

Walter YOUR THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This phone is going to rock I hope the 17th is the day!!!!!! I’ll drink green beer and have a kick @ss phone!!!!

Well, what else can one expect; I mean, I’m sure he’s quite happy with his “Home” button and his iTunes.

Gott damn IPwnAndroid, you just got bitch slapped! Tim242 is right, your ignorance and stupidity definitely shined through. You should’ve looked at the specs before you said anything, but I’m glad Tim put you in your place. The back of his hand.

No skype? What is the ff camera for?

    • Evilempire

There is something called oovoo. My kids are on it all the time. Use it until the Skype update is up and running.

      • Thunder

finally! I’m headed to best buy tomorrow! Can you say price match! Niceeee!

    • Tim242

QIK (recently bought by Skype), OoVoo, Yahoo, Fring, Tango. Skype may be the most popular, but certainly not the only video chat. But, it will come.

      • Anonymous

tango is cool and i believe google talk will have video enabled as it is on the xoom

  • Vxk

    Anyone knows the plans?

It seems that you have to pay $30 for 3G and $20 for 2GB of 4G = Total $50

    • Joel

No your $30 unlimited data includes 4G … For now

  • Rav80

my best buy called me on Saturday confirming I can get the TB on 3/17. Good to know the rumors are almost at an end.

  • Mpossoff

How much is the TB on a 1 year contract?

  • Tim242

    That is 3AM EDT

  • Anonymous

    Anybody know the battery size?

I’m afraid of buying this phone because of the fear of battery not lasting a full day.

I’m between this and the rumored HTC Pyramid (tmobile).

    • Tim242

      1400 mAh, should be fine.

      • Nyczprince546

Should be fine? Yeah def not fine. HTC kept postponing the release (well verizon postponed it) because the battery is so small and pathetic that it was only getting 3-4 hours of battery life. Dont expect anything over 8 hours now after the different software changes. LTE chip sucks battery.

HTC’s biggest flaw is putting shitty tiny batteries in their phones like in droid incredible. Put the 1900 mAh battery from the atrix and than you’ll have some decent battery

      • Tim242

Unmmm no. The battery issue was because of Lte, not a shitty battery. Get
        your shit str8. K? Thanks.

      • Anonymous

It should be but i would love to see HTC working with 1650mAh.

    • http://theworldgrowsold.wordpress.com/ Mundus Senescit

Just read 1250mAh, but in now way certain

  • canreadaclock

    Hey professional journalists at BGR:

There’s no more EST until Halloween.

    It’s EDT.

    Daylight time.

    You’re welcome.

    Newsflash:

Verizon just made changes to home page (23:15 EDT); ThunderBolt featured 1st, in place of mAxiPad 2.

    Happy shopping Androids!!!

  • Anonymous

Great phone if you want to give up your first born to pay Verizon’s way over priced 4G plan. I’m sticking with T-Mobile’s fast network and best plans. My Nexus One will keep me happy until they bring in a super phone.
    (it’s coming soon)

    • DrB

what’s your idea of way overpriced, the same $30 unlimited as their 3G?

  • Anonymous

ill believe it when i see it
