Apple Stores may replenish iPad 2 inventory, open early tomorrow [updated]

Tablets

According to an unconfirmed report, numerous Apple Stores will be opening their doors one hour early on Tuesday as new iPad 2 shipments arrive across the country. Several shoppers seeking the new tablet today have reportedly been told by Apple retail staff that new shipments are incoming, but the iPads will not be available for sale until tomorrow. The report claims to have confirmed early openings with several Apple Store locations, though BGR placed calls to four Apple Stores and none would confirm early hours tomorrow. A retail employee at one Apple Store did say that a new iPad 2 shipment was expected today or tomorrow. Apple’s iPad 2 launch was met with tremendous demand, with some analysts estimating that Apple sold nearly 1 million units this past weekend. Apple has not issued any sales figures yet, saying only that “demand for the next generation iPad 2 has been amazing.”

UPDATE: BGR readers George F., Efraim and others have emailed us to confirm that their local Apple Stores will indeed be opening an hour early tomorrow. Interestingly, three different stores we’ve been told about said they would open early but would not be receiving a new iPad 2 shipment until later this week or early next week. The plot is thickening, but we would definitely recommend calling your local Apple store before calling in sick tomorrow.

Gotta keep up with the demand Apple.

Keep demand high…keeps prices high. That is apple’s motto.

ya , so high that they are still cheaper than inferior android tablets

If my iPad 2 order wasn’t free for me, I would have most likely gotten the Xoom. The hardware is superior to iPad 2 and the 32GB model is the same price as the WiFi 32GB iPad, $599.99. Throw in 3G and LTE and yes the price shoots through the roof.

Don’t worry men. Apple will surprise you like they did for last yeah. It says 3-4 four weeks but you will receive confirmation within a week trust.!!

Hope so. Mine was free to pick up, so I am not complaining, but 3 to 4 weeks is a bit of a wait :)

such BS. trickling out the inventory to create a false scarcity.

They are the masters of marketing, no one does it better.

No other company would call 500K to 1 Million units a trickle. Sounds like a flood to me. Demand is out of this universe.

That is such BS. Regardless of how you feel about Apple that statement is just stupid. Close to 1 million sold in 1 weekend – how many companies do you know produce 1 million products in that short a time and get them out to their customers in 2 day? Also, they are making the products so fast that the component suppliers can’t keep up. I guess that is also artificial? Or would you prefer them to take a page out of Motorola’s playbook and just ship the iPads with no wifi or 3G so customers can send them back to Apple so that they can be added later when the components are ready?

The smartest thing for Apple to do now is to sell as many as possible as fast as they can so they can brag about how many products they have sold. Love the company or hate the company the one thing that most people agree on is that they are good at marketing so I am sure that they have figured this out and are trying to get products through their supply chain as quickly as possible.

My Local Apple Store, usually resupply their inventory every Tuesday, or early Saturday. Usually they tell you “call to make sure, if we have them in stock”.

Play books will sit on the shelves for months.

I am so not playing these silly games. Running back and forth to the apple store, not knowing when or eve if they have any devices in stock. I have to work and don’t want to waste gas on that.

I have a idea for you. There is this thing that was invented around the late 1800′s you can use. It’s called a TELEPHONE.

      • Eric

Just because you call first, and they say they have what you want, doesn’t mean it will be there for you when you get there. First come first served….

  • Bryansbuff

Nope. I just called the Apple Store in Tampa and despite opening early, they did not receive a shipment. He told me he was kind of surprised but to check back tomorrow am.

    • Lramey86

Heard the same today, and they were telling EVERYONE that, so I assume it will be quite a crowd. They were also blaming it on the trucks not Apple. He told me the shipment was due yesterday but there was a shipping/truck issue and they’re ‘expecting it’ Wednesday morning. See you there.
