Sprint offers $150, $50 to wireless defectors

General

U.S. wireless carrier Sprint has launched a new promotion that aims to ease the financial pain of cellular defectors. Through April 16th, the company will offer a $125 service credit to users that port their number to Sprint from another carrier and sign a two-year smartphone contract. If a smartphone is not in your future, Sprint will offer a $50 service credit to those users porting to a non-smartphone plan. After moving your number over, apply for the credit, and 60 days later an service credit will appear on your wireless statement. The offer is available to those that migrate a line of service from another carrier via Sprint’s online store, phone sales team, or retail locations.

Why does the headline read $150 when the credit appears to be be $125?

Whew!!! I thought I was going blind! o_O

  • Anonymous

And the massive network issues they’ve had, along with no being able to take care of the customers they have now makes this a good idea how?

    • http://twitter.com/hawaiiinsomniac hawaiiinsomniac

Sprint network is awesome. With the recent tsunami alert here in Hawaii, the AT&T network was dead.

    • Derail Doax

I have no idea where you people see massive network issues, and poor customer service. I’ve had them for 8 years and never had these problems you speak of. I think you’re a liar who’s trying to justify to himself paying Verizons astronomical prices. That’s just my opinion.

Try VA or MI. Can’t make calls at all during peak hours or texts and the rest of the day it’s a huge challenge to accomplish anything. Sprint has acknowledged this and said June is the estimated repair date. I figure when they admit there’s a problem it’s not just people complaining.

      • Kurt Simmons

I live five miles from two sprint stores right in the middle of Nashville and can’t make a call on a sprint phone unless I stand in my back yard. Which I didn’t find out until I left AT&T and my unlimited plan to buy two Epic 4G’s

      • TUPAPI

And how does living 5 miles away from 2 sprint stores is going to help your reception issue? Are those stores also cell towers? I live close to plenty of AT&T stores and my reception is no better (not saying I have a problem with my reception)

      • Kurt Simmons

You would think they would have towers where they have such a strong retail presence.

    • LaWd MoUf

Just keep riding Verizon’s dick and stfu

    • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

what the heck are you talking about? network issues since when? you live in a cave or something?.. havent taken care of there customers, there just rated # 1 via JD Power thats all.

  • I would like that

Hey Sprint, how about adding a 2 year BJ bonus, done by some of your 19 y.o. female hotties, to those who switch?

  • http://twitter.com/homescrub homescrub

Left Sprint 2 years ago. Never looking back.

    • Derail Doax

Unless you switched to Virgin Mobile, Boost or Tmobile you’re stupid with money.

      • http://twitter.com/homescrub homescrub

Who needs those carriers? Oh, perhaps poor people with bad credit, like yourself.

      • TUPAPI

Poor people? I wouldn’t put it like that. Pre-paid services are for those who don’t want a contract, youngstas’, or people who are here visiting for a couple of months etc… But definitely not poor people. Please try to get the troll inside for a bit longer and don’t make stupid comments.

    • Freakkemz

U look gay which is a perfect butt victim for Verizon and AT&T especially if you “never look back” to see if some one is indeed sodemizing you financially

      • http://twitter.com/homescrub homescrub

I’m sorry that you have a poor credit rating and can’t get a car or a loan. That’s why Sprint it perfect for you, because unlike me, I can afford to pay my bills, and take out loans to buy things you can’t afford.

      • jon the Sprint User

I have great credit, make good money as an engineer, and find it humorous that, because I don’t waste money each month on the same services, that I am bad with money.

A text is a text, a GB of data is a GB of data, and a minute of talking is a minute of talking. So, please, enlighten me as to why I must have bad credit because I don’t want to pay more for any of these things than I have to.

      • Anonymous

If you have to take out a loan to buy something, then you can’t afford it either loser

      • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_OU5NAWBXD7EORLOSWVYUZI3X24 Mike Twomey

You think you needed a good credit rating to pay alot more a month for a phone? And even if that was true, you think it’d be something worth bragging over? LOL

      • jon the Sprint User

Is making fun of someone at the expense of an already-discriminated-against-enough group of people really necessary? Just call him ugly and be done with it.

  • Anonymous

If it wasn’t for the unlimited data, I’d be gone to T-MO or VZW by now. Take that away or up the “smartphone fee” anymore and I’m gone……

    • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

shoulda coulda woulda, bottom line, anywhere u go the grass is not greener. You get the Best value for wireless with Sprint hands down period.

    • Techboy94804

I agree.will leave in a heart beat if they get any more expensive.

  • http://twitter.com/salvador1974 Salvador Bobadilla

This news is mad old on the Sprint Website. Do you guys have a quota of post ya need to do, in order to keep your blog jobs???

  • Anonymous

I’ve stated in previous posts, while I found their Voice and Data Networks quite excellent in New York City, their outsourced Customer dis-Service Calling Centers, where inept reps’ do not comprehend or speak the English language, SUCK!!! You couldn’t pay me $500 dollars to go back to Raj’ and Singh’ asking me, “what are you saying?” “Sir, we have a bad [landline] connection.” “No, I can’t tell you which Call Center you are calling because of security reasons.”

Although, I miss my EVOOOO ….
And, I’m still undecided about paying them their $180 ETF.

THIS IS WHAT WE CALL DESPERATE !!!

    • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

sitting on 6 billion on cash reserves i highly doubt it. Try again.

  • Anonymous

    Desperate company is desperate.

    • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

thats why there making bigger moves than any other wireless company. you make no sense.

      • Anonymous

        Bigger moves into what? Bankruptcy?

If by “bigger moves”, you mean “losing hundreds of thousands of customers every business quarter”, then yes. You’re quite right.

      • Anonymous

Except they actually added customers this past quarter.

      • Anonymous

Really now? That’s news to me. It’s also probably news to stockholders and executives of the company. Please, tell me where you found out this information.

      • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

where have u been hiding dude? First off Sprint is sitting on 6 billion in cash reserves, bankruptcy is not in there near future if ever. And Sprint Vision ever heard of it? Sprint is looking to Spend 5 billion in the next few years merging there technology to improve and increase there network. there in talks with lightsquare to possibly get LTE going… hundred of thousands of customer yes ur right but not there last quater they actually added customers… get your facts straight man.

      • Anonymous

Bigger moves? There trying to merge with tmobile to compete with att and verizon. Is that there BIG move. They suck always have.

      • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

opinions are like arsholes everyone has one.

      • Anonymous

Nope, DT is the one trying to sell T-Mo to Sprint. Why would Sprint buy T-Mobile when they added subcribers last quarter and T-Mobile lost over 300,000 people????

  • Dre

this has been going on for about a month now…..way to go

  • mcme

Why would anyone choose Sprint. you depend on roaming outside most cities. Their customer service centers are in India and they have crappy phones and their 4g data is on WIMAX, a technology only supported by Sprint and Clearwire. Neither company has the financial capital to build out the rest of their network. Obviously desperate times call for desperate measures. Buying customers. Yikes that has to hurt the bottom line.

    • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

why choose Sprint hmmm where to begin, umm for one they dont rape there customers as Verizon and AT&T do. Coverage and data is almost up to par with Big Red. customer service is ranked # 1 for the past 2 years by JD power and associate. umm 3 u said crappy phones ok ummm how about the phone that started all the highend android phone out there and still is competitive forget the EVO, and EPIC, just 2 name 2 there is more but i just wanted to make a point so scratch that off too. if you had payed attention Sprint yes started out with wimax as there 4G and correct me if im wrong they were the first to do so, oh and there was no such thing as LTE when Wimax started to brew, ok scratch that out. buying customers, no i call it marketing. As far as merging thats not Sprint IDea. Dueche telecom wants to get rid of there losing investment called T blobile.

      so much wrong here. Zzzzzzzzzzzz………….

  • Anonymous

Lol ya ok sprint. You can’t give me a free phone and free lifetime service and I will not go back to you worst carrier ever.

    • http://twitter.com/skreekia david

how old are you 15? sure sound like it, i will not go back to you worst carrier ever ( while stomping feet )

  • Shaunchong

I would love to save money and switch to sprint but there voice service is absolutely horrible here in the central valley of California. Dropped calls and no signal in hundreds of places. And they STILL don’t have 4G here in Fresno. Phones great, customer service great, plans great, can’t make or receive calls no thanks! And all I hear on this site from various people is how bad AT&T sucks? It must really depend on where you live because the only good service here is Verizon and AT&T. T-mobile is even worse than sprint here, weak 3G signal all over the place.

  • dwinsmith

Sprint is in for some serious hurt with losses after the massive number of customers they’re losing right now due to network issues. Why would anyone in their right mind switch to Sprint?

    • Anonymous

Unsubstantiated drivel. Their last quarterly numbers show customer additions, not losses.

      • dwinsmith

This quarter won’t. The network is having major issues nationwide and they are going to lose customers.

      • Anonymous

Unless you somehow have intimate knowledge of their internal churn metrics, your prognostications are pretty much meaningless at this point.

      • hhb

Not sure what issues you are talking about. None in TX or NJ where I live and work.

  • Anonymous

I wouldn’t mind going to Sprint. But they done have any phones that I like. It seems like all of the good phones are going to Verizon. And as far as I can tell, there aren’t any global Android devices on their network yet. I will stay with Verizon. Yes I pay more bjt it isn’t that much more and I get excellent service and a awesome selection of phones to choose from.

  • Ebatr

Someone seems desperate to add more customers I wonder if they ever want to see more profit or if they enjoy losing profits every quarter. I don’t blame them, I suppose you’d have to pay me too so that id take a kyocera phone with two screens. OMG!!! does it have a flashlight too with a button to turn it on like there prepaid cave man phones had?

  • Nofanofdeb

The NEW EVO must be coming out April 17th. Still, I am out of contract with my VZW Storm, so I could basically get a FREE EVO and forget about the Thunderbolt.

    • Anonymous

You could forget about the Thunderbolt regardless. Why would you want that When Sprint will have the true sucessor in the next few months…possbily before the Thunderbolt ever hits shelves?
