Purported iPhone 5 images show larger screen, same design

Site iDealsChina has published CAD renderings of what it claims to be Apple’s next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5. The “mold engineering drawings” depict a device that looks very similar to the iPhone 4 — complete with an external antenna design — but add a larger display panel with thinner borders. The site is reporting that the handful of renderings were created to aid case manufacturers in the production of new protective products — similar drawings of the iPad 2 leaked months before the device’s announcement. The images directly conflict with a report filed by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, which indicated that Apple was considering a milled aluminum body for the next iPhone.     Time for something totally different. These mediocre redesigns are such a yawn. Am I the only one on the planet that thinks Apple could own 90% of the market if they actually had a slide out keyboard option? Not everyone (especially blackberry users) like a touch screen experience.

    Roughly laying in the dimensions, it look like the new screen could be around 3.85″ diagonally. Interestingly enough, at the current resolution, it’d bump the ppi from 326ppi to 300ppi—right at exactly “print quality” that’s supposed to make the individual dots indiscernible to the average human eye. Seems like they could bump up the screen size, keep the form-factor, keep the resolution (meaning no change for developers), and still call it a Retina Display…

    Originally, I’d have said “no way,” but that does seem to make it plausible…

    After making such a huge deal over its retina display, apple will never reduce the ppi on the iphone.

      It’d still be “hi-res,” and it wouldn’t jack developers after only a year, as well as 2x all previous.

      I’m just saying, if Apple is going to go with a larger display, around 3.85″ is what they’d max out with for the foreseeable future.

    Not wasting my upgrade on this shit. Looks the fucking same, and a lame ass OS that has no widgets, no Google Talk, No Google Voice Integration, and crappy fucking push notification system that the phone belongs in the garbage can.

    Why bother jailbreaking it, when an Android phone comes packed with way more features than this pile of iShit.

    Yeah, based on his illustration it seems like its going to be even longer than its going to be wide, which is pretty cool considering the fact that the first time all of us looked at it we thought it was just wider.
