Honeycomb is ‘by the geeks, for the geeks, and of the geeks,’ analyst writes

Android 3.0 — or “Honeycomb,” as Google lovingly calls it — is not fit for mass consumption. This according to analyst Trip Chowdhry of Global Equities Research, who calls Google’s tablet-friendly operating system “by the geeks, for the geeks, and of the geeks,” and says it has little chance of mass adoption. In a note to investors on Wednesday, Chowdhry lambasted Honeycomb and said it would fail. In a bizarre twist, however, the analyst also said the failure wouldn’t matter because “Honeycomb is insignificant to Google revenues.” As an ocean of consumer electronics OEMs bet the bank on tablets and Honeycomb (along with future Android builds that will be based on Honeycomb) quickly becomes the platform of choice, we’re pretty sure Google stands to make a buck or two off of the Google services all these potential users will have tossed on their laps. But Chowdry thinks Google should stick to the Web, where consumers won’t complain about buggy products because they’re free. When an $800 Motorola XOOM crashes repeatedly, however, “the consumer is unforgiving.”

As a prediction analyst, I can honestly predict that Mr. Chowdry will one day have to eat his words.

Amen to that, retarded predictions like this make people unemployed. But he’ll probably be able to pick up a job writing for BGR due to his love affair for everything iOS.

I stopped reading at “8-12 hours of standby”, since I haven’t charged or turned off my XOOM in almost 3 days. The first day I got it, I had over 7 hours of display usage, and was still at 23% battery.

This guy clearly has no idea what he is talking about.

If you google ‘Trip’ you’ll find he’s been Android bashing for a long time. He called the XOOM ‘dead on arrival’ back in the fall when he’d never even seen it yet. He’s also a long time Apple promoter and his company officially covers Apple. He’s also known to be buddy buddy with ‘Daring Fireball’s’ John Gruber. Nough said. He’s no more an analyst than the Pillsbury Dough Boy is an impartial observer for Pillsbury.

If you google ‘Trip’ you’ll fine he has a long history of Android bashing. He called the XOOM ‘dead on arrival’ back in the fall when he hadn’t even seen one yet. His company officially covers Apple and he’s known to be friends with John Gruber of ‘Daring Fireball’ fame. He’s a paid Shill, not an analyst. If he’s impartial then the Pillsbury Dough Boy is anorexic.

Does this idiot think the same of Android for smartphones… cause it is now the #1 smartphone OS in the world. If I had any money invested on information from this guy, I’d be getting out quickly, he clearly has let personal bias get in the way of facts. Honeycomb based tablets will sell extremely well, just like Android for smartphones, and just like Android for Smartphones, it’ll make Google a few billion in the process.

Wow you know I wish I knew that when I put my iphone 3gs away to try the htc evo. Iv’e been a geek for 20 some years now and android os is far from geeky.

  • heyhey

it is totally mind boggling how the xoom was released without it being ready for prime time….why? why? who made the decision to release thins thing? no LTE , no flash, no SD card support, half-assed calendar app and only 16 tablet optimized apps….so why release it? why? just optimize the god dam product and then release it…..i was pissed when i heard about the summer release of the touchpad, but now i am glad that they did not release a half baked product….i cannot wait for the touchpad…..and i am happy that HP is being prudent and organized, unlike android and its mess and every messy thing associated with it….
