Apple to hold iOS 5 event in early April, report claims

mobile

A new report suggests Apple will unveil the next version of its mobile operating system at a media event early next month. German Apple enthusiast blog Macerkopf.de cites a trusted source in claiming that Apple will reveal iOS 5 and new MobileMe features in early April. The timing of the rumor is in line with Apple’s announcements in years past; Apple held its iOS 4 event last year on April 8th. Among the more anticipated changes expected in iOS 5 is a completely revamped notification system. We have discussed Apple’s notifications system several times on BGR, and we even said iOS notifications were “as disruptive as notifications on a mobile device can possibly be.” Apple is well aware of the problem, and the company hired Rich Dellinger last year — the man widely regarded as being responsible for the fantastic notification system found on HP’s webOS platform. Apple has not yet confirmed any details surrounding the next version of iOS or an event next month.

Why wouldn’t I believe this? You guys have been really reliable when it comes to Apple news lately.

    • http://twitter.com/brian_george Brian

I’d believe it, because they DIDN’T break this story :)

  • Anonymous

At least it doesnt say “analyst” claims… Only report claims…

    • Scott

Thank you! It appears I’m not the only one that’s sick of seeing articles with “analyst claims”. Whoopty doo! How about you post articles that some kind of FACTS behind them. Anyone can pull numbers out of their ass!

      • Bringit

Actually there are many sheep like you who simply come here to b–ch about the same things – especially any Apple related post. Clearly it takes away from your time changing the background picture on your DROIIIDDDD, but not enough for you to not take the time to read and post in threads you claim to not like.

  • Douche

Yeah and iOS is dropping today also…we dint believe you, you need more people

  • Cer

    Isn’t iOS5 announcement = iPhone 5 announcement? Or am I wrong?

    • Jdl1707

They usually announce its before iPhone launch and hold off on revealing next generation hardware specifics.

    • http://twitter.com/mattsinopoli mattsinopoli

If I remember correctly they announced iOS 4 early so that developers could start on new apps that would be ready in the summer. Sounds like they are doing the same thing this year.

  • Generatione

They just launched 4.3. Couldn’t they have waited a month and launch 5.0 instead?

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_BHMB52ZFMATI5KS7D4JT6UU7NA Eric W

They didn’t say when iOS 5 will launch. Probably in June.

  • Caoviet298

Pol should abandon this website. Rumor maker. I’ll never ever come here again

  • Scott

It’s going to need more than a better notification system to bring me back. After having my Atrix for only 1 week, there’s no way I could go back to iOS. Sure, they apps have more polish, but I can live with out that. It’s kind of hard to believe I’ve gone as long as I did with a crappy notification system and no customization.

    • Generatione

Aren’t you concerned that new versions of Android will come out and you won’t be able to get it until AT&T releases them (if they ever do)? I was looking at the Atrix myself.

      • Scott

Not really. It is AT&T’s flagship phone, after all. I think we’ll see 2.3 pretty soon. And there isn’t much in 2.3 that I really would need to have. I’d be more concerned about getting 2.4. But that’s where XDA comes into play. Yeah, the bootloader is signed, but I have confidence they’ll crack it.

      • Anonymous

You are missing the point. Goofans (aka Apple Haters) will continue to buy the latest phone. I am at a rate of 2 per month now. You could NEVER EVER do that with that POS Apple. You have to wait one full year to get more goodies. With Android on a weekly basis we have new stuff, so no need to upgrade!

      • Anonymous

        2 a month…? You have no life…loser…

      • Anonymous

Thanks Nymph! I don’t need a life cause I have Android!

  • Fastwalking

4.3 would have been the perfect cover – who would have guessed they were working on 5,0 when everyone was looking for 4.3? When you think about it, 4.3 was really only for ipad – it doesnt offer much of anything to iphone or ipod.

It also helps to make sense of a potential ipad3 latter this year based on iOS5

iOS5 Notifications! Just like Androids, but BETTER and MOAR MAJICAL!

iOS6 Widget! One 4×1 widget per screen, max! The Apple way!

iOS7 Live Wallpaper! Only Apple made Live Wallpapers, no 3rd party devs!

BGR has NOT been reliable with Apple news at all lately. It’s pure guessing at this point. I’ll believe it when Mashable, TechCrunch and Engadget post.

  • Cornbread

You retards bitch about BGR getting shit wrong yet still tune in. Stop reading. They are also right frequently. Personally I’d rather read all the rumors and have some come true than none, keeps it lively and interesting. A little side note about Apple products. I gave up my iPhone 4 for the Atrix, which sucked horribly. Laggy and slow browsing and delayed emails. Tried the HTC Inspire, better but battery is a joke, even with the screen turned low, task killers etc. Went back to my iPhone 3GS after kid commandeered the iPhone 4. 3GS felt shit in winter slow. Bought a new iPhone 4 today. Hate to admit it, but it is presently the best device on the market IMO. I will say this however, Android seems to be getting close and have breezed past Apple on voice and nav.

    • Scott

I call BS. I have an Atrix and it’s far from laggy or slow.

      • Cornbread

Scott, how many times have you slid your finger to unlock and it doesn’t register? The fingerprint deal even worse. There is no denying the browser is frozen piss slow. I’m not here to say Android is bad, just not as good as iOS. Only my opinion, and one shared by many, and disagreed with by many. The Atrix was a huge disappointment for me. I have been trying to get away from iOS because of some android features I love like the the pull down notification bar, nav and voice commands everywhere. But in the end, the battery, email and general clumsiness brings me back to iOS. Working on both, cutting and pasting etc, there is no comparison. Again my opinion.

      • Cornbread

You can call bs all you wish, I bought it on day 1 at the ATT store in Beverly Hills, Matt helped me you can ask him. I gave it 12 days and really thought it sucked. Sucked. I used a Captivate longer back in July.

      • Cornbread

Tell me what you think about the Blur email client? That doesn’t suck balls? Compared to the new Sense 2 interface it looks like the 90s. Blur is crap andi believe it is part of my disdain for the Atrix. However, can’t blame blur for an awful browsing experience. And it is slow. Try out a Samsung or HTC device and tell me Atrix doesn’t lag. It does. I put that device through it’s paces and I can say unequivocally it blows. The ATT guy told me I am not the first person to return it, although he didn’t think they were coming back en masse. Play with it more and report back, I suppose there is a chance I got a lemon, but I doubt it after googling things like “Atrix laggy”

That’s simple, Cornbread, Android is so powerful that it goes at the speed of your brain x1000.

However, if you don’t have a brain at the level of the average Goofan (aka Apple Hater), (don’t feel bad by the way, only .0000005% of the population has our intellectual capabilities), the phone slows down considerably so you drop it and a real Goofan (aka Apple Hater) with the right intellectual prowess picks it up. Sorry man, you are simply not smart enough for Android.

There’s hope however, for folks like you and it’s iOS. The OS for the common folk!

  • Alexander530

Honestly, I really don’t know what the problem is with the iOS notification system. I seem to be getting all my messages just fine on my iphone and my ipad.

    • P2d9t8

me too, i have had the 4 for a year, it is perfect and i have never heard of the notification issue, they r a bunch of complaining bitches & i appreciate your comment cause thats how i feel! LOL

      • RealDeal

Wasn’t the iphone 4 released in July 2010?

What of smartphones have you used? Most people don’t notice notifications as an issue unless they moved from a platform with good notifications.

  • http://bit.ly/samirsshah समीर शाह

To drop desktop/laptop iTunes requirement and go directly to mobile iTunes, that is the question.

  • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

You guys must not have any friends texting you.

When I make a phone call on my iphone and I get 4 texts (for example) before I can hang up with the phone call I have to click close, close, close, close. In the meantime I can hear the person still talking.

It has come to the point where I have to tell my wife to be quiet until i close all the texts and hang up the call. A few times my wife started talking shit about the person I was hanging up with and that person heard what she said!

Another example, I’m in the middle of writing an email reply to my boss and a tweet comes in via text, then another and another. CLOSE, CLOSE, CLOSE, then continue to write the email.

    Come on, FIX IT!

    • Bringit

If you really are that popular, is it so difficult to turn off notifications and then check if you have a text after your call? It’s actually pretty simple.

      People love to whine though.

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

Dummy, you can’t shut off text message notifications.

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

The iphone should hold the text message until after the call is over. It can give me a chime to say the text was received, but it shouldn’t stop me from hanging up.

      • Bringit

Damn you are one dumb whiny baby douche.

        Turn off text notifications:

        1) ‘Settings’
        2) ‘Messages’
        3) Switch “OFF” the option of “Show Preview”

Learn how to use your phone before you open your little mouth.

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

        YOU ARE VERY DUMB!
        THAT DOESN’T WORK IDIOT!
YOU STILL HAVE TO CLOSE THE MESSAGE BEFORE YOU CAN END THE CALL.
        TEST IT RIGHT NOW!
Do I need to make a video and post it on youtube…

        GO BACK INTO YOUR HOLE

    • EdWright

If you are not the biggest douchebag ever. Read what you wrote and examine your miserable life. You are a tool on so many levels. Waa waa I get a tweet when emailing my boss. Be a man. Start by dumping your bitchy back stabbing talk behind your back wife. What a cunt. Oooh I don’t like the notifications. Maybe the Apple people are total pussies if you are typical. Relax, great their notification system isn’t great, itsa a goddam phone. Get over it. What a fuckin idiot you sound like

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

Typical android idiot. No respect whatsoever. I’d love you to say that to my face.

You obviously never used an iphone before. YOU CAN”T HANG UP THE CALL UNTIL YOU CLOSE ALL THE MESSAGES! DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?

    • Bringit

The easiest most user friendly smartphone on the planet is too difficult for little victimofgravity (of course “victim” is in his name. one of those guys). I think you should go back to a good old flip mobile phone. Easy technology is not for everyone.

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

I’m going to have to make a video for you peabrained idiots.
You obviously don’t use an iphone, or you would understand why the notification system sucks.

      • Bringit

From the guy who can’t even turn off notifications. We’ll wait while you try and figure out how to make and post a video of your pain and suffering.

        Dumb ass.

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity

You can’t turn off text message notifications. You are an idiot. You don’t own an iphone.

This is why apple is revamping notifications.

      • http://twitter.com/victimofgravity victimofgravity
