Adobe releases preview of Wallaby, a Flash-to-HTML5 conversion utility [video]

Software

Via a brief blog post, software giant Adobe has announced a preview of its “Wallaby” Flash-to-HTML5 conversion tool. The company is describing Wallaby as “experimental technology,” but notes that it will facilitate the viewing of FLA files on iOS devices. “This [Wallaby] allows you to reuse and extend the reach of your content to devices that do not support the Flash runtimes,” writes Adobe. “Once these files are converted to HTML, you can edit them with an HTML editing tool, such as Adobe Dreamweaver, or by hand if desired.” Not all Flash features are supported by the conversion utility and Adobe does warn of a handful of documented, known issues. Hit the jump to see a video of the utility in action.

Damnit Adobe…I liked it better when they were punishing Steve Jobs for his stubbornness when it comes to conforming to standards. Flash is a web standard. Yeah, it takes some serious system resources, but it’s getting better/leaner all of the time. This just sends a signal to apple that they can do whatever they want and somebody will cater to them. (disclaimer: I know that this conversion tool is a good thing overall, but them giving credit to apple is what’s stupid. They should have stuck to their guns, “We will no longer support iOS devices.”)

LMAO How would they punish steve jobs or apple… Apple/Steve Jobs are doing just fine without flash. Besides if you want it that bad there’s an app for that… Skyfire

True. There is another they just released called iswifter. Also doesn’t almost every single website work on iOS devices video and all. And >>>Not all Flash features are supported by the conversion utility and Adobe does warn of a handful of documented, known issues. And why is this different then Flash 10.1. It has tons of issues.

Most common mistake when writing on the web…. than not then.
Also, just because the 4 pr0n sites you found to work on your itouch are HTML 5, does not mean ” almost every single website”, as you keep saying, is compatible.

You must not surf the web much. It is very frustrating finding big chunks of websites that are just blank or inaccessible.

I’m on the web about 12 hours a day 5 hours of it on my iPad. And like I said many sites work just fine on it video and all.
And Walter Mr common mistake on the web. What is a itouch? The most common mistake when writing on the web….. iPod touch not itouch.

iOS is better THAN android os. How’s that?

Ya because iOS devices are doing poor sales because of lack of flash. Mostly every single site has converted to run on every iOS device video and all. Let me ask you something seriously. Do you truly think people care about flash? If everyone did like you think they do there would be 20 million returned iPads and 100 million returned iPhones. Adobe is seeing this and this is there answer to try to get on iOS devices.

Spoken like a true regular person with no regard for the technology you use. iDevices are made for the average masses the are less than tech illiterate, not for people that actually know and care about the capabilities of the device they’re using. They reming me of old people phones. Everything is made Barney style so even the geriatric can use it – big and plain, hence old people phones with giant buttons.
