AT&T slashes prices on original iPads, too

Tablets

Following in Apple’s footsteps, AT&T has reduced the price of original iPad models by $100 online and in its retail locations. A 16GB iPad will now retail for $529, 32GB for $629 and 64GB for $729. If you were contemplating an iPad before, and aren’t blown away by the new features of the iPad 2, hit up your local AT&T or Apple Store and save. Anyone out there going to pick up an original iPad in light of the iPad 2 announcement?

Nope but I may buy an ipad 2. Never had a tablet before and now they are looking tempting.

Same to you…………I was actually looking for the tablet which have special designed OS. Now, after announcement of iPad 2, lot of tablets next to come. I will buy one for me probably in May.

After having my iPad for a year, i cant say its worth upgrading to the new one but if i were a new buyer id take the new over the old. A refurb 16gb wifi is going for $350 so one would expect to get around $300 for one. Thats still another $250 out of pocket to upgrade (with tax). But for a first time buyer the difference is about $100. The 2 is nice but somewhat a disappointment to me.

Now if i could just find a sucka to give me $450for mine & a wifi xoom would drop!!!

Went to the apple store today and prices were still 500 for the 16 gb iPad

    • Kunal Sharma

Buy online its $399. Look for refurbished and clearance items

    “Slashes prices” hardly….

      +1 “slash”, meh.

I have to be honest here, if Apple or AT&T had slashed their prices by a good 35% to 45%, I would have considered the Origiinal iPad. But, Apple’s first generation iPad is no longer competitive and, at this point, neither is mAxiPad 2 with it’s outdated specs’.

    XOOOOOOOM …….XOOOOOOOM …….XOOOOOOOM …….XOOOOOOOM …….XOOOOOOOM …….

    • HamDroid

How is xoom competitive?? For $800!?!? They could include a toaster and an oven, I wouldn’t buy it…

      • Anonymous

okay. depends on what kind of toaster. and oven. I mean, there are some nice looking toaster/ovens out there. 100$ even. so that would make the Xoom 600 dollars for 32 gb. That’s not bad. I like toast.

How much is the LTE version of iPad 2?

      • Anonymous

        Hope you get this Serpentor:
LTE version of iPad 2 does not and will not exist. iPad 2 will not be upgradeable to 4G, nor will it support the faster bandwidth. This information I got directly from a Verizon rep’ on Friday. So, for those wishing on iPad 2 4G LTE, the 4G version will be with iPad 3.
I just have to confirm one other thing on the XOOM and I will place my order; I may go ahead and order tomorrow because, once the sheep find out there’s no 4G on mAxiPad, the sheep may jump all over the XOOOOOOOOM.

They Xoom isn’t a good product, I bought one and returned it for not having any applications. Google f’d up.

      • Marshefen

Did u try any of the regular apps? I have downloaded almost every app that I have on my phone and they worked great.

      • serpentor

So you read BGR (and I’d guess other gadget blogs also) and you didn’t know there aren’t any applications for it?

Honeycomb can run regular Android apps no-problem. So, what do you need to do that you can’t right now with the regular apps available?

Also, I’m most likely being trolled.

    • allan

The Xoom is intentionally overpriced. If it wants to play , it needs lower priceng. Also, the Xoom software is still somewhat beta, and features do not work. Also, the movie play time is 7hours vs 11 for the IPAD. I am using a nook color running Froyo. $200.

    • Buffy

If my experience at Best Buy is any indicator, the XOOM is doomed! Zero interest from the public. I was the only one even bothering to look. The G1 iPads had a little crowd due to the price cuts.

My own experience is that the software on the XOOM is totally lacking. I doubt most people would prefer it even to the G1 iPad – at least those people who buy after trying out the products rather than going by specs. The software and set up PF the XOOM is not as intuitive nor as attractive as the iPad. The XOOM also is poor in portrait mode and the screen seems much too dull.

It’s over for the XOOM. A shitty tablet on 4G is still a shitty tablet. The Sammy 10.1 is the next great Android tablet hope.

Yes You Are Right Buffy, it is Tough call for Xoom To compete with Hugely Popular Brand named as Apple iPad.. One of the Major Factor between two tablets are price..

I love Android too, but you lost my interest in your views at “…mAxiPad 2…”

  • Blank10

Nope, not blown away…there really didn’t improve that much, mainly addressed the shortcomings of the iPad 1….so where is the USB port? Now that would get me to buy one…

    • Bluelou65

i’ll go ahead and break it to you. no iPad will ever have a USB port.

      • Anonymous

Yes it will but, you’ll have to laser custom cut it yourself. And, after you’ve done so, you can use the “flash” on the mAxiPad to snap a short video and post it on Youtube (via Desktop version).

    • Feedbackfortheauthor

Why are people so hung up on a USB port?

I sold my iPad about a month before iPad 2 announcement in anticipation of buying an iPad 2, but after seeing how minimal the upgrade is going to be I decided to go out and repurchase an iPad 1. I managed to get one on Craigslist yesterday for $250 less than I sold it for. $450 for a 64Gb 3G version. I for one am very disappointed in the screen size, camera, and lack of significant improvement in iOS. What have they been doing for then past year? Circa 1998 camera, give me a break…

    • GettysBurg11s

You are basing your purchase on the carmera? Give me a break. You are probably not going to take a lot of still photos with a huge tablet, which is why apple included a 720 p camera. They also wanted the iPad thinner. the front facing camera is fine for what it needs to do. As for screen size, if it were much bigger, you wouldn’t be able to easily hold it. Case in point: motorola zoom, 10.1 inches.

      • Anonymous

I have honest to goodness work that I need a minimal camera and flash for – and the iPad’s is abysmal to the point where they are unsable. I meant resolution, not screen size. As it is or a little smaller is fine. I also like to use the iPad to edit pictures and there is a great program called Filterstorm on the iPad that is hobbled by the low resolution screen of the iPad. I am just saying the the improvements are minimal and not worth paying retail for when a regular iPad can be purchased for about 50% of an iPad 2 before tax.

      • Anonymous

Yeah. I wish to god they would give it the iPhone4 camera. But it’s not like I need an iPad to do my camera stuff. I have the iPhone 4. the camera is neat but not a dealbreaker.

It’s the dual core A5 chip that is the killer hardware feature. Have you seen the demos. Crazy good.

      • Anonymous

@campcamp, I am for sure tempted by the processing improvements and the memory increase, but for what I personally need the iPad for they are not critical enough to justify the new expense… especially with a new iPhone due out in a few months and rumors of another iPadish device later in the year to putting a new iOS device front and center at XMas time.

      • Max

This has got to be the worst “camera” in terms of ergonomicsever diesigned. Why do people go nuts over this feature (even though they’ll probably never use it.) If your need for a camera is so pressing, BUY A FRIKKIN CAMERA for what it costs today. Jeez. Who the hell is going to take pictures with a flat slab in their hands?

      • Anonymous

@Max. For my work I often have to do 4 things at once. Greet clients and process payments, take notes and sketch pictures, take pictures, and measure, which I do with a laser. This all requires more hands than I have and I historically did with a Windows tablet. The iPad 1 has been a little better because it is lighter and more usable in the car, but has always lacked a camera. So with the iPad 2 I was ready to shell out even more money less than a year after the first iPad only to discover that Apple failed to put a reasonable camera in it. I don’t know why you are getting so mad because the iPad 2 has failed to love up to my needs. You really need to look outside your own use. There are many people like me.

      • Drew

How are YOU gonna dictate what is “..fine for what it needs to do” for other people who actually care about good hardware?? Apple again… choosing a slimmer form factor over the usability or PERFORMANCE of the hardware. You cheat consumers when you care more about how it looks than how it works. Cool, you made it thinner than the iPhone 4 but it doesn’t have iP4′s camera, so you failed. A similar scenario would be a Veyron Bugatti with a Ford Focus engine. It just doesn’t match…

      • serpentor

But you’re not likely to hold a huge tablet to take pics, what makes you think you’ll do it to take a pic for 2 seconds?

And what? you’re saying you can’t easily hold a Xoom but you can with the iPad?

        0.4″ difference.

Pass…I have a dell streak, big enough for my tablet use, and still small enough for use as a phone.
Nothing against the iPad, just doesn’t fit my needs

Thanks for sharing but no or cares

  • Crockett Jason

Just picked up an iPad first gen from best buy for 350. This is the price point I wanted to stay in for this toy. People won’t even use the other features. I don’t want the iPad to turn into a tablet computer.

  • Anonymous

Still to expensive! They need to offer them as Android stuff is offered. BOGO or 1 cent. Only then will they be able to compete against us! Actually Apple’s stuff is so bad they may actually have to pay people to take it and be able to compete against us.

    • flibneshipal

      And by “US” you mean…?

  • http://twitter.com/homescrub homescrub

No thanks. My Inspire 4G does more than this lousy tablet.

  • flibneshipal

I like the iPad 2, but I think the iPad 1 is sufficient for enough for all but a hand full of additional applications that the iPad 2 will feature. It’s difficult to compare the different tablets because they all have unique features. I believe the new tablets, regardless of which one, are still in their infancy stages. As technology intertwines with everything else ie vehicles, alarm systems, payment systems, appliances, etc tablets will find their positions in the post pc evolution.

  • 1T2dirtnap

It doesn’t matter what you nerds think or argue about, Apple will sell more iPads (1/2) then Samsung, Motorola, HP, and whoever else is in the market. I see more people, friends, family members with iPads then GTabs. I don’t know of any friend or family with a GTab, normal citizens wan’t the iPad!
