T-Mobile’s BlackBerry Bold 9700 finally gets OS 6

Exclusive

While official word has yet to come from T-Mobile’s camp, we’ve heard from multiple sources that the carrier has finally released BlackBerry OS 6 for its BlackBerry Bold 9700 smartphone. The update isn’t yet live on the website, but 9700 owners who connect to BlackBerry Desktop on their PCs should be able to install the update. The release build is version 6.0.0.448, as has been known for quite some time, and this is the first version of OS 6 made available to Bold users by T-Mobile.

Thanks, John and Walter!

Maybe its just me, but I still carry a BB, yet my other phone is and Android. I look at the apps I have on my Android versus what I have on my BB and they’re virtually the same. Since I’m not a gamer and “fart” apps dont excite me the BB is still very relevant to me. I’m actually looking forward to the latest touch screen BB and in the event it does what a good touch screen is suppose to do (And it will), I could see my putting my Galaxy S and Nexus One on EBay. Well maybe not the N1, because it will be a collectors item. BlackBerry isn’t dead, its just not a leader amongst men anymore.

I couldn’t agree more. Over the last 4 years, we’ve seen powerhouses like Nokia and BlackBerry get pummeled by Apple partly because these companies were serving a different vertical. It was when they shifted gears and spent their resources on making an iPhone killer did they find that they didn’t have to. Hence the reason Nokia decided to partner with Windows & BlackBerry sticking to what it knows best. Just like Apple’s close encounter with extinction 10+ years ago caused them to innovate, BlackBerry is being forced to innovate. BlackBerry has a major vested interest in Waterloo University and their R&D budget is virtually limitless. They’ll come around.

On the TMO site, correct. It still does. But,w hen I connected my 9700 up to the desktop software to perform a sync, the desktop software told me a software upgrade was available and did I want to install it. I’ve had zero problems since installing it. Battery life has been pretty much as it was before the upgrade. The biggest thing I noticed is that it’s using about 65MB more internal memory that OS 5 did.

BB Bold 9700 users will surely benefit from OS 6. Managing pictures to your device has never been easier and faster with BB6. It has a wide range of camera environment settings. With Scene Modes, you can quickly select Close-Up, Snow, Beach, Night, and Sports.
