T-Mobile to introduce two new international calling plans that don’t suck

General

According to the latest intel gathered by TmoNews, the nation’s fourth largest carrier, T-Mobile, will begin offering two new, pre-paid international calling plans on March 13th. Aimed at those who frequently dial from the U.S. to friends and family internationally, the plans include unlimited calling to landlines in 50+ countries, unlimited text messaging to any mobile phone in over 220 countries, and discounted calling to international mobile and landline numbers. The plans look like this:

  • $60 – International Unlimited Talk & Text with 100MB of domestic data
  • $80 – International Unlimited Talk & Text with 2GB of domestic data

Both plans also include unlimited, domestic voice minutes and text messages. That’s a pretty strong offering — especially in the pre-paid category — from T-Mo. Thoughts?

T-Mo UK have been doing something similair for years now. When I go to the USA I get unlimited data for £15 per month however calling from abroad is normally what gets me. It worth noting though, that my calling plan includes international calling as part of my minutes.

My tariff gives me Unlimited LandLine, Unlimited T-Mo calls, 500MB data, 500Minutes cross network calls that include international calls. I then have the option to bolt on unlimited roaming data for £15 per month. I have used it a few times it saved me a fortune.

Boost Mobile has this now for an additional $5 a month, not to mention Boost comes with shrinkage (yes, insert jokes here)… so $5 off your monthly bill every 6 months. Not to mention unlimited data. :P

Looks like T-Mobile USA is heading down the same cash flow crisis gain a customer at all cost as Sprint, even if they are not a profitable customer. Just get their cash in the bucket and their number on the board as a subscriber. Great effort to stay afloat and compete, although customers still need service and reliable service at that and customers in the USA will pay for quality reliable service. Take a page out of the VZW playbook, build your business on what the customer pays for SERVICE, CALLING INFASTRUCTURE and they will pay the frieght and your company will be profitable. GOOD LUCK T-MOBILE LOOKS LIKE A GOOD OFFER!!!

I’m using Voxofon on my G2 and pay pennies for international calling. To chat with smartphone users in Europe just use Google Talk or Whatsapp. Both are free and work just like SMS.
