T-Mobile offers discounted Samsung phones, waived ETFs to Sidekick owners

mobile

T-Mobile has begun sending letters to remaining Sidekick users in order to notify them that the Danger Services powering Sidekick phones will no longer be operational as of May 31st. T-Mobile first announced the imminent shut down on Tuesday. What can current Sidekick users expect in return for being forced to part with their beloved Danger phones? Half off a select Samsung phone between now and May 31st, or a waived ETF should they choose to take their business elsewhere. Oh, and users will have to sign a new two-year contract should they opt for the discount Samsung phone. Hit the break for the full letter T-Mobile sent affected subscribers.

How could someone use a keyboard like that. It’s just bad design and looks really hard to type on!

Anyways, on topic…this seems like a fairly good deal! I mean, it would be nice if Verizon bought back the phones for half the cost, or something of the like…it’s not like the cusomers can sell them on eBay, right? I believe that since the phone was marketed together with the service when it was sold, the customer should have that service at least to the end of the contract. Sure, waving the ETF is nice, but what about the loss in value of the phone?

    Here’s what they should do…
no ETF + 1/2 phone cost
OR…1/2 phone cost back as well as option to purchase a new phone and continue on with the old contract (no starting new 2 years).

Use to have one Bacc in high school, one of the best keyboards ever.

Seriously, how bad must it feel to get kicked in the nuts by T-Mobile?

I think T-Mobile is doing the right thing considering that they didn’t make the decision to shutter Danger’s services. Waived ETF so a customer can jump to Verizon or AT&T for the iPhone 4, Atrix, or Droid makes it a bit of a risky move.

T-mo is dropping the ball. “Get another phone for 1/2 price and sign a 2yr contract. Oh by the way another sidekick is coming out but you won’t be able to get it because we already got you on contract.”

What T-Mobile should do since they know about Microsoft is shutting down the servers, is give people half off on the purchase of the upcoming Android-powered Sidekick 4G.

People know its coming, because of the letter’s that are being sent out mentioning it. If I owned and was using a Sidekick as my current device, and was being forced to upgrade, I wouldn’t bite on that offer.
