HTC Merge gets rubber-stamped by FCC

mobile

It looks like the recently announced HTC Merge has been given the U.S. government’s stamp of approval. Spotted at the FCC, the HTC handset has been long rumored to hit Verizon Wireless’ lineup. The extended lag time between the device’s discovery and unveiling — along with the deafening silence in between — led many to believe that the handset had either been scrapped or was being retooled with an LTE radio. Now, thanks to the FCC, we know neither of those things are true. The handset will be hitting “multiple North American carriers” in the near future, sans LTE (bummer). The FCC filing does include the device’s user guide, so if you want to know a little bit more about the Merge, hit the read link and have yourself a look.

It’s a good thing they didn’t release this phone back in September, when you guys first spotted it. Otherwise I would have actually purchased it, instead of the Droid 2 currently situated in my pocket.

Good going, HTC! I can see how you hate(d?) my money.

How is that a good thing? The Merge is superior to the Droid 2 in almost everyway, especially hardware wise.

Uh… sarcasm, dude(tte?). The Merge is superior hardware-wise. Sense is way, way better than MOTOBLUR. In addition, it would presumably have an unlocked bootloader. I’m just bitter because I would have gotten that phone without a second thought if it had been available and I just don’t see myself paying retail for the Merge unless I can find somebody to take this Droid 2 off my hands.

Not having LTE is a bummer? Do you want this phone to never be released?

Will be interesting to see if Verizon will become the new AT&T: favoring the iPhone over all other devices. Merge, Thunderbolt, what’s the next non-iOS device Verizon is going to delay?

The true test will be how the iPhone 5 launch will be coordinated with the Droid Bionic. I foresee the Bionic being delayed.

Now we need the HP Pre 3 to come to Verizon.

All Bing’d up if the user guide is accurate :-( Hopefully, root and de-bing is possible.
