HTC CHAnges name of ChaCha; to be known as ChaChaCha in Spain

mobile

We’re not sure why HTC decided to change the name of its ChaCha handset in Spain. Maybe it’s the fact that ChaCha is already the registered trademark of a mobile search engine? Or maybe it’s that “chacha” slang for “servant” or “slave” in Spanish? Whatever the reason, HTC has decided that its Facebook-button bearing, ChaCha handset — which could be making its way to AT&T this summer — will be known as the ChaChaCha in España. Earlier today, the company took to Twitter to let Spaniards know about the name change. What do you think? Are three chas better than two?

ugh…I’ve always viewed HTC as a high end smartphone maker, and the fact that this device exists with their name on it is sad

What the HTC is thinking? First the design, then the facebook button and now the name ? This phone has been going through a series of fails. I say future is not good for this phone.

There are two reasons for this. The first is that the cuban-born Cha-cha Dance has that name only in english. The original name ‘en español’ is Cha-Cha-Cha.

Second, ‘Chacha’ in spanish is a pejorative term used to describe Paid cleaning ladies and often associated with a uneducated low-class woman. HTC must have discovered that they don’t want to launch some ‘HTC Charwoman’ ;)

    Greetings from Spain!
