AT&T says iPhone users aren’t fleeing to Verizon faster than expected

mobile

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, AT&T Mobility boss Ralph de la Vega said that iPhone users aren’t defecting to Verizon Wireless any faster than the carrier expected.”We haven’t seen any surprises, and everything is pretty much within our expectations,” de la Vega stated. Verizon Wireless finally launched its first Apple smartphone — the iPhone 4 — last month, and some analysts believed hoards of AT&T iPhone users would flock to Verizon as a result. AT&T, of course, has found itself under much scrutiny resulting the iPhone’s from poor performance on its network in several major metropolitan regions. De la Vega would not share specific numbers so in there may in fact be a mass exodus underway, but early indications do not lead us to believe that is the case. Analysts at Wells Fargo said earlier this week that AT&T is expected to lose 150,000 contract customers in the first quarter of 2011, down from the 225,000 it originally projected.

Its funny and refreshing to see a company say it expected to loose customers, hence there is a real problem.
VZW here and have been troubled by the speeds lately here in Florida, can’t wait for LTE. Gonna see if I can grandfather in my Xoom, and hope the Tbolt and or Bionic will be able to do that too.

AT&T is the best where I live… I get service everywhere and others are searching for signal. I once had a guy at the Verizon booth at the mall ask what carrier I had… he didn’t even get reception!

Why would they. It’s an inferior phone.

Well the fanboys said many times those who aren’t happy with AT&T shitty service will do whatever it takes to jump shift it the Iphone ever land on Slow-rizon, didn’t happen so I guess VZ 3G is not so great as they always claim……so now the reason is the Iphone5 is close to be released if that don’t drag people to the so called 8th wonder of the world carrier and best choice god gift to earth for Americans I don’t know what will be the next excuse…..!!!!!!

Stoper… don’t hear that word much. So you are like excavating fanboys from under the surface?

User churn is user churn. And AT&T is losing a portion of the most valued customers – smartphone users. ARPU from these users is what carriers relish most. Sounds like sour grapes.

Not right now, but when a LTE iPhone is available at Verizon AT&T will suffer.

That’s right, Ralph. The real fun doesn’t begin until June. Then again, maybe not. You’re dealing w/ a market that’s been saturated w/ the Android experience. Why go back to limited choice?

Thats not really that great a sign Bell. Youre going to lose 125K people who left to buy a phone that will be knowingly outdated in a couple of months, Once the new iphone launches, it will be a stampede away.

Well of course they aren’t going to SAY users are dropping them like a pregnant hooker… how would that go?

“Well sh%t guys, we lied. Verizon really IS better.” — Ralph de la Vega

It doesn’t seem a lot but if they would just take that money and fix the stupid towers, it will pay off in the long run. Take away the Executives bonus and fix the towers. Faster 3g means nothing if you can’t get any signal.

FUCK YOU AT&T. If I could only make ONE in every five phone calls in LA without it dropping. If your termination fee was less, You’d lose just about everyone. Thanks for the 100 credit on my bill last month for shitty service.

    • Bob

PS, yes, I feel better now. a little.

Man I know im not leaving AT&T. My bill is $82 a month for all voice, text, unlimited data . I get great reception and always have 3g where I go and. When I do have a problem which is pretty much never the people at the store near me treat me well and with respect. I had verizon 8 years ago HORRIBLE.

As a AT&T user I hope the people that have bad service with them do leave. Should’ve never came to begin with. I love these people that sign up with any carrier to get a phone but not see if they have service with that carrier. Stupid. My buddy did the same thing he left AT&T for a droid x on verizon. He’s had nothing but problems with the phone and the service when he has service. As verizon has bad coverage where we live. I call him stupid.

That’s probably because people have already left. I gave up my iphone (and AT&T) service because I couldn’t take it anymore. Went to Verizon and bought a droid and now that I’ve gotten used to it I’m not sure I’ll go back to the iphone now that it’s available. In short – AT&T isn’t factoring in the customers it lost long before the iphone on verizon became a reality.
