Apple announces HDMI video-out cable, Smart Covers for iPad 2

Breaking

Durning the company’s iPad 2 event today, Apple announced the addition of an HDMI-out connector cable. The 30-pin dock connector to HDMI cable will support full mirrored output from your iPad 2, output video in full 1080p, support rotation, and cost just $39. The accessory also allows you to charge your device while connected. Apple also announced a new “Smart Cover” built by Apple specifically for the new iPad. The new cover (not a case) uses magnets to attach and auto-align itself to the iPad, adds minimal weight, and it has a micro-fiber lining to clean the screen. As an awesome little twist, the Smart Cover will automatically put your iPad to sleep when closed and it will wake the tablet when opened. Smart Covers will be available in polyurethane for $39 and leather for $69.

I think DISQUES had a few processing issues…. when every tech blog out there is using their comments, it’s not surprising they were overloaded today.

    yay! another proprietary cable!! :-/

I dunno, 9-pin connectors have proven to be very reliable on my ipod and other devices. Micro USB? Not so much.

Grass huts have proven to be very reliable as well… Doesn’t mean I’m gonna build my house out of grass instead of stucco or brick. There hasn’t been an outcry of people having issues with micro USB as a universal standard. Seriously?? It’s just a USB port. This is just another useless proprietary accessory for you to buy from them.

    $39 for external HDMI. Fail.

Does this cover hide the camera on the back when folded open? Notice how they do not show any pics of it entirely folded open.

I think it is a good accessory to have but as I can also use Airplay I probably wouldn’t need it.

Wonder if you can use the external HDMI connector on old iPad?

    1) Hasn’t Jobs stated previously that HDMI was “a bag of hurt” or something? 2) $39 for an HDMI cable? Really? Fools and their money …

LOL, it’s an HDMI cable. Wow, it allows you to see what’s on your computer, only on the tele, whouda thunk it? Next week, Steve Jobs discovers the secret of fire.

This is really good post to read. This covers are awesome to use with iPad. I am planing to buy one for my original iPad. Apple should provide proper HDMI slot in iPad without giving any adapter for HDMI.
