Apple announces FaceTime, iMovie and Garage Band for the iPad 2

Breaking

During its media event on Wednesday, Apple unveiled FaceTime for the iPad 2. The video calling app and service will function just as it does on the iPhone 4, and it will obviously support video chatting with both iPads and iPhone 4s. FaceTime for the iPad 2 is part of iOS 4.3 and will be available immediately at launch on March 11th. Apple also introduced iMovie for the iPad, which includes a precision video editor, multitrack audio recording, over 50 sound effects, new themes and AirPlay for sharing videos in HD with popular sites. The new iMovie app is also universal, so it will also run on iPhone and iPod touch as well — and it’s still just $5 in the App Store. Garage Band for the iPad, also announced at the event, features a variety of touch instruments and recording capabilities. Users can also plug in a guitar and play real instruments as well. The app sports guitar amps and effects, 8-track recording and mixing, over 250 audio loops to play with, and it’s compatible with the popular OS X version for Mac. Garage Band will cost $5 in the App Store when it launches on March 11th.

LOL…iPad 2 fail. This is far from revolutionary…it’s a moderate step in the general direction which is expected of such technology. Stupid over-hyping tech blogs…

ipad 2 blows away the competition. I am getting one on March 11.

So much for Apple nixing the home button…

  • RealTalk

LMAO!!! So you are telling me you can editing a freaking movie on the iPad2 and record music YET cannot go to a fully Flash website?!?!?!?!?!?! And this is the improvement?!?!

I surely gettting a Playbook now! FAIL!

ipad 2 is better than the smaller sized playbook. playbook is only 7 inches.

You forget, Flash will drain the battery too fast and they would not be able to claim 10 hours. :) Oh, editing a movie and running dual cores won’t drain the battery? It must be that Steve is jealous he didn’t invent and can’t change Flash, so the world must change instead!

    • StevenGlansburg

Yeah, I really miss the diet and penis enlargement pill adds of the sides of website. Flash is irrelevant.

    • Tnp

Aren’t you getting it yet? Flash will not be on any iOS device, period. It’s laggy. It’s a battery hog. It’s not meant to be used without a mouse. It’s a stupid bandaid from ages past.

The second it’s available for my xoom it’s being disabled.

stuck at 64gb …AGAIN? to me, that is the fail. i need more capacity.

    • Anonymous

Damn, what are you putting on that thing? I’ll probably never own a tablet but even if I did I can’t imagine what would take up so much room.

      • zps

I want my whole music collection on the device, which is greater than 64 gb.

Well, the iPad almost caught up to the Xoom. We’ll see how it fares with the LG Tab, and the Samsung Galaxy Tab II.

  • Larry

Well the Ipad almost caught up to the XOOM. We’ll see how it compares with the newer Android Tablers, the Blackberry and HP/Palm tabs as well.

    • SideshowDave

Sorry, but have you tried video editing on the Xoom? What a huge disappointment. And there’s no comparable function for Android phones. That leaves the iPad way ahead in this category, not “almost caught up.”

I like my Android stuff, but Google still has a ways to to catch up with Apple.

      • bob

Could you please elaborate on “no comparable function” for Android phones?

  • bob

wow it almost has the specs that the Xoom has!!

As someone who does light video editing and plays guitar I am glad to see iMovie and Garage Band come to the ipad. I may well be picking one up this year.

Garage Band?! Holy shit I might actually get an iPad then.

    • Anonymous

Likewise. GarageBand is quality for putting together quick demos and ideas. The one thing I like apple for.

      • TUPAPI

What??? Norm what blasphemy say you? you like AAPL products?? LOL
