Rite of passage: Honeycomb commemorated with statue at Google HQ

mobile

Honeycomb (Android 3.0) is officially official. The gang in Mountain View have taken to the front lawn to commemorate the latest and greatest iteration of the Android mobile operating system, Honeycomb. The statues comes complete with an Android robot and honeybee — this statue seems to have a little more flair. If you’re in the area, the Honeycomb effigy is located in front of Building 44 on Google’s California campus.

    Typo. You mean Android 3.0 right??

  • http://twitter.com/howarmat Matty

    yeah 3.0 lol :)

  • clemens

    Right. Gingerbread is 2.3 (and apparently 2.4 as well).

    It’s cute but one wonders if it’s not getting a tad bit silly now. I guess it keeps some artist somewhere employed.

      I don’t see it as silly at all. Google has hit it on the head, it’s the little things that also make the difference.

    2.3 = gingerbread
    2.4 = ice cream
    3.0 = honeycomb

      Thank you, I hope they edit the article to include your information.
      Actually, they should already know current and upcoming iterations.
      Guess they’re all stuck up Apple’s a$$ and too distracted?!!!

        I agree. However, 2.4 is still Gingerbread.

        Read somewhere last week (or the week before) that Ice Cream would be the 2.4 release but, you could very well be right. I’ll have to research it tomorrow because PAPINYC just turned off his desktops and this DROID X is too CRAPPPYYYYY for that kind of research.

    • Tim242

      Actually, 2.4 is still Gingerbread.

        You are right, 2.4 s still gingerbread. Ice Cream will fuse gingerbread and honeycomb for phones.

      Anybody know how they’re going to reconcile the numbering? I mean…The tablet build (3.0) is going to have to evolve, and the current smartphone version will keep evolving…what will happen when the smartphone-based system reaches 3.0?…

    Little more fair what?

  • http://ffh.squarespace.com Anonymous

    Honeycomb would be Android 3.0 not 2.3 which is Gingerbread.

    I think you mean this statue has a little more flair.

    can someone call the exterminator, damn bees..

    I just love the recycled articles. They get posted on every other blog, then late that day or the next, they’re regurgitated here.

      So you think that the reporting is fragmented as well?

      Not to worry though, Google is going to be merging Honeycomb and Gingerbread into the same OS. I wonder where they came up with the idea that that is the particular way to go. Do you think that they might have taken the follower position from another company?

  • Anonymous

    For those needing to know, Ice Cream will be the merged version of Gingerbread and Honeycomb that will run on Phones, Tablets, STBs and whatever else Google can think of. They got the idea to run the same OS on all devices from some company, though their fruity name escapes me.

    “But, Honeycomb was built for tablets.” Whatever that means.

    • Tim242

      You should stick to topics that you have at least a clue about. 1. The next version of Android for phones is 2.4. That is another version of Gingerbread, just like 2.0 and 2.1 are Eclair. 2. The “I” version has not been confirmed as Ice Cream. In actuality, it is rumored to be Ice Cream Sandwich, since Ice Cream is so similar to FroYo. 3. The “I” version will bring some Honeycomb features to phones, but is not a merged version. Honeycomb is the tablet OS. The phone and tablet versions will not be merging. Stick to iOS where everything is simple and more on your level.

        First, you shouldn’t assume what I know and don’t know.
        Second, Google themselves stated that Gingerbread and Honeycomb are going to be merged into one OS to run on a multitude of platforms.

        Google the info. And quit being an idiot. The information is there.

      • Tim242

        No, it is not. They stated specifically that they would be kept seperate. I have watched every interview and press conference. They said that the “I” version would bring SOME honeycomb features to phones, but that they cannot merge them. Search BGR and see for yourself. I wish I could put links here to show you.

        Tim, it’s your story brother, tell it however you want. Facts are facts though. Google is going the one OS model.

  • Tinky_30

    But the big question is……………….. when does jelly doughnut come out?? Err jelly cookie? juicyjuice? Jello? jelly roll? Jam?

    Next version is Dingleberry…cause it’s like all their other fragmented pieces of sh!t…
