Samsung Galaxy S II launching at the end of March, tips UK retailer

mobile

UK-based online retailer Clove has posted some interesting information concerning the availability of Samsung’s Galaxy S II. Via a brief blog post, the company writes, “we’ve had word today that the first stock of the Samsung Galaxy S II i9100, both the 16GB & 32GB versions, will be landing mid to late March.” The March timeline predates Samsung’s target release, which has been communicated as Q2. The Gally S II — which boasts a dual-core 1GHz processor, 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 1GB of RAM, NFC, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 8 megapixel rear-facing camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and Android 2.3 — is available for pre-order from Clove; £510 for the 16GB model and £590 for the 32GB model. The retailer does caution that “release dates are always subject to change,” but it’s nice to hear rumors of an early (as opposed to late) release by a manufacturer. Still no word on when/if the Galaxy S II will make its way to the States. Fingers crossed.

Does that mean the US variants are gunna be here a month later? (Im assuming they will do it like before where each carrier gets their own.)

Looks much nicer than the Atrix. Gotta love Android, It’s like buses you miss one and another will along in 10mins.

I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think my Atrix has far for style then this. But to each his own…

Galaxy S II Looks adorable with some stylish outlook and having some adorable features as well.. Way Batter from Atrix, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and Android 2.3 support also looks great..

I’ll pass. What a boring square slab. How original Samsung. After your buggy OS and slow updates, I hope you don’t sell nearly as many.

I’m not excited. Between the fail range on the bluetooth radio and fail GPS of the first one and the lack of timely updates, I’m not gung ho about giving Samsung even more money anytime soon.

Love the specs, but seeing how Samsung is getting heat for this Epic 4G bit, who knows what will happen if a variant gets released in the US. You’ll always have people who don’t care one way or another, but I’ve seen some heated members at XDA sound off on this issue. Some even say Samsung has too much on their plates and can’t handle what they have already. (Hence the SII, and the Epic 4G is still not where it needs to be).

I thought Samsung had the right strategy when they first started shipping galaxy s. They essentially released the same damn phone on every carrier, but still couldn’t keep up with the upgrading. Boy was I wrong.

I did as well, but then it was 6 months before this EB13 release and now it is pulled. Not by Sprint mind you, but Samsung. They’ve got to get CURRENT phones stable first before they start with a second version in my opinion. I can tell you that on my personal Epic 4G I had the data problem with the EB13 installed. My data was 30kbps and 18kbps. Maybe others had luck, but I however did not. I am not about to hard reset either.

I just hope they don’t lock it into BING on VZW again. If I buy a Google phone, I’d like it to actually use Google search.

i wonder what carrier in the U.S this phone would be on.?

So do we beginning complaining to Samsung about failing to update the OS on this phone now, or should we wait until later when it inevitably happens?

ill never buy another samsung. ive been waiting for flash on my fascinate for months

you have to be really bold to give samsung another chance after the woes of the galaxy s line.

      they can’t **** up that bad twice…haha

      • zps

        haha, so true!

With the debacle that was the Froyo update for my captivate, with the Sprint update getting screwed up, and with Verizon still having no Froyo update for their Galaxy S phone, why in the world would ANYONE consider a Samsung phone at this point? Throw in the idiocy of samsung’s ‘kies’ software and their out-and-out lies about when froyo would be released, Samsung is dead to me in the phone arena, no matter how attractive their phones might be.

All of my sources have timed the release to end of June in the UK. I suspect Clove are just after the publicity.

I have the Galaxy S (3G) here in the U.S. on TMO with Band IV (1700). I recently got the 2.2 update and like it. The Vibrant (what my S is called) is great – fast, clear bright display, thin, etc. However my mouth is watering for the new S2 with dual chip, even better display, etc. I fear though, if history is a guide, that it will take ages for a U.S. version with the necessary Band IV (1700) to become available. If anyone hears differently, lemme know. I want one! (The U.K. version wouldn’t work here in the states due to the diff band)
