Rumors put Windows Phone devices on Verizon’s network in late March

mobile

According to information acquired by WinRumors, Verizon Wireless will begin to sell Windows Phone handsets towards the end of March. Citing “people familiar with the company’s plans,” the blog goes on to note that the HTC 7 Trophy — the same CDMA, WP7 handset to be carried by Sprint — could be announced as early as February 28th. The device will have Microsoft’s “NoDo” update (also known as the copy and paste update) and should retail for $199.99 with a signed two-year contract. Any Big Red patrons out there waiting on a Windows Phone set?

I really hope this phone helps WP7 like the original Droid helped out Android. WP7 just needs to be on more carriers!

Nothing can help WP7. WM 6.5 has a better chance.

      • Canouan

Wrong, but that’s your right. WP7 may have some growing pains to go through but it’s the first new idea out there and has a lot going for it. A little time will tell us that MS is in the game.

      • Meat

are you high? 6.5! WOW you must own an iphone. :( )

      • numetheus

Why would an iPhone owner like WM6.5? iOS is about a simple touch centric OS. WM was managed like a stripped down desktop OS with a registry and processes you had to manage or it would be unstable. People that love WM6.5 love the complexity it gave you while iPhone lovers love the simplicity. You obviously have not thought this through and just blurted “IPHONE LOVER!” like a retard with Tourettes syndrome.

People just don’t get how free and open DROID OS is. It allows you to do anything you could ever want. It’s truly incredible and the iphone sucks.

      • numetheus

Are you serious?!?! WM was a disaster! It was an ugly POS that nobody liked, so it spawned a HUGE economy of skins that completely covered its ugliness. It had a small software base compared to iOS and Android, yet had a large percentage of apps that covered up the OS and add functionality that should have been added from the beginning. I seriously don’t know anyone who thought favorably of WM. But hey … you can like whatever you want … but don’t pretend like the world liked it.

    WP7 = DOA

  • Jeck7788

The Trophy is not the same as the Sprint Arrive.

  • Rowanova

WP7 will go nowhere, all on its own. Years late to the game and a half baked product even then. Folllowed by more problems since release, like this weeks botched OS update, and a previous data leak problem.

Also, VZW is loaded with Android and BB users, plus all the new iPhone customers they now have, and will continue getting.

Man, are you people just MS haters?? or what. Have you played w/ the phones? I had the HD7 for three weeks, before I had to send it back-Tmobile service was garbage in my area… The phone was fast, responsive, loved it. My wife has an iphone.. No thanks.. Love apple, but don’t like an iphone.. The win7 OS is just what I want, and having to stick w/ verizon.. I am happy to hear this.. How about some of you fanboys give it a chance, or try it out before bashing just because it isn’t made by apple. The iphone had issues once it was first released, but you didn’t hear the complaining.

      • I want one

I am not a huge fan of MS, but the win7 phones intrigue me. I did like the phone your talking about, love the big screen. My wife has a mytouch-good phone. I have the old iphone but thinking of switching. I don’t know. Done w/ Att and may consider verizon, my wife will be upset to give up her phone, but she will live. :) BTW-love apple products, overpriced, overhyped, and comes with its issues too, I have had my shar from ipods, to iphones…All phones, and OS’s have issues at release, and look at the android update..always something.

      • Anonymous

I hate every OS except DROID’s OS. Everything else is not as open and free so it sucks.

    • Your an Idiot sir

the “botched update” affected less than 90% users and was on the samsung only.. Remember Iphone updates in the beginning?? Didn’t think so.. I am open to any newcomer to the game.. The more the better..

  • Ill trade in my iphone for ONE

Awesome. I hope so. I want a win 7 phone, like crack.. I played w/ a buddies. It is so fast, snappy, and love the netflix and xbox live support. Anyone want my iphone??? Oh, funny the comments from some of these people, total bias jerk-Offs. All phones, OS’s have issues out of the gate, Iphone, android, crackberrys-all brands and OS’s.. So dont be so quick to be a fanboy.

For all the idiots posting that WP7 is a failure, it’s very obvious that you haven’t tried out the OS. You just read a few articles/comments online and go with the flow of bashing it. That is what technically illiterate people do – buy into marketing and can’t make decisions on their own.

I currently use a BlackBerry, an Android phone and iOS device. I know what I’m talking about. When WP7 phones land on Verizon, I will have one of those, too. Why? Because Microsoft has definitely invented a great new OS – it’s fluid, fast and very intuitive. Does it have it’s flaws? Yes but what new OS doesn’t have those? It will improve in all aspects of a mobile OS and become an aggressive competitor in the mobile arena.

    • Anonymous

Actually, technically literate people choose phones based on the specs that they have (both hardware and software). Unfortunately for Microsoft the simple fact is that their software is ridiculously behind in features and functionality and their Nexus One-era hardware just doesn’t cut it anymore.

      • Anonymous

Technically literate people still get what they like. You play spec chase any you’re updating every other week. I found a phone that has the right mix of features and specs that I wanted and that phone was the Focus.

    • Some guy

just a comment. Technically illiterate people refers to people who cannot read and write. Technologically illiterate people are those who are not knowledgeable about techs.

      • http://twitter.com/tarund TarunD

        You’re correct. I fixed it :-)

  • Professional Squirrel Herder

Choice is good … the more options available, the better. I’ll at least try one out. From what I’ve read, it has some good design ideas. Not sold on it as my next phone, but I will certainly check it out.

  • Jeff Dahmer

Will probably beat sales of that “Verizon Iphone”…. hahaha What a joke. Verizon sucks dick to get that phone and then they fail to meet expectations with it. The apple fad is dying down (again), Verizon was late to the party… and we’re all laughing at you.

count me among those waiting for WP7 on VZW, for sure. However I think MS really needs to sack up and storm the market by undercutting competition at price point. trying to sell a brand new platform for the same price as stuff everybody else is already familiar with is a mistake. i’ll be waiting for these to drop in price or do the 2-for-1 offers like the initial AT&T offerings did. That or LTE and/or dual core capabilities

Such lazy tech ‘journalism’ – BGR couldn’t find a screen cap of the Trophy? Why on earth would you post a picture of the HTC Arrive for this story?

  • Lord Butthead

And the 4 people still using windows mobile phones rejoiced……

    • Anonymous

What did the thousands using WP7 do?

  • Hammer

    *Yawn*

  • Bert

Defintely interested in a WP7 verizon phone. The price point is killing me though. Needs to come down. When a iphone 4 is selling for the same and is able to be resold for over a $100 that is a problem.

  • Ingot1

    Who cares????

  • KB

WP7 sucks. Its way to simple and boring. You cant even change the background for heavens sake. Plus the Samsung one has nothing but problems (when thats samsung for you) The app market it small and a 99c app on iPhone and Android cost 2.99 on WP7 for some reason.

… says the guy who probably has never used one for more than 15 seconds.

      U suck

Why does it seem all the Fandroids of the world are out to spit on WP7? If its really that bad why even worry about WP7?

  • YoYo

Meh, there’s not a market for WP7 on Verizon network, everyone wants either an Iphone or a Droid. Look at Blackberry and Palm barely anyone wants either of them anymore and why is that because Iphones and Droids are where its at and when you add Windows horrible track record in the past along with the fact many people don’t see past the two dominating OSs i just don’t see WP7 doing much of anything, sure some may buy it for some reason or another, but really lets face the facts no one is really gonna care.

    • Anonymous

Give it time, 12 months ago they didn’t even have a viable product.

You want that Not everyone want what u want

  • DavidinCT

Come on Verizon, lets annouce Windows Phone 7 to your line up. I’m ready to change carriers because I want one but, would like to have your network to use it on.

Looking forward to Monday to see if anything shows up.
