HTC Desire, Desire HD, Desire Z, and Incredible S getting Gingerbread (Android 2.3) update in Q2

In a statement to blog SlashGear, HTC let it be known that it intends to bring four European handsets up to Gingerbread (Android 2.3) in Q2 of this year. Three Desire models — the Desire, Desire HD, and Desire Z — along with the recently announced Incredible S will be getting Google’s latest and greatest mobile code. It’s nice to see HTC pushing out updates to some new, and more importantly old, handsets. Here is the company’s official statement.

“We are excited to announce that the Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will receive the Gingerbread update in Q2.”

      That would be nice considering the Captivate just got 2.2 and was released last July. Maybe ATT and HTC will do better than ATT and Samsung.

      The DROID Incredible will not be getting DROID OS 2.3. However the DROID Incredible 2 4G LTE will come with 2.3 from the start! Expect it late second quarter.

        And why not? I just bought my Incredible 4 months ago. I feel they owe me some support, given that I paid quite a bit for it and the crappy HTC Sync software won’t even work. Hours upon hours on the phone with their support people, and no deal on Sync. Now, they aren’t going to update my new phone to Gingerbread? This will be the last HTC for me, then.

      Here is your update solution. The Galaxy S2 4G will come with Gingerbread at purchase. Expect a 2nd half 2011 release time.

        I’d think so since the G2 IS the Desire Z without sense and a different baseband. It’s more vanilla than the Desire Z so it should be relatively easy.

      I don’t understand how you guys don’t get it yet. The EVO 2 will have DROID OS 2.3 when it comes out in June.

        And here I was saying “OF COURSE my EVO is bound to get Gingerbread soon because HTC is so good about these things…” NOT. I guess they consider the Evo too old since it’s been out for 7 months. Or maybe one update is all you get. I’m p*ssed.

        well that is the greatness of DROID. If you are too poor to upgrade every 3-4 months you can SIMPLY root your DROID and load on a custom ROM that is guaranteed by XDA to work. Yeah it might void your warranty, but its open source and free and choice for the consumer. DROID FTW!

      Aside from the obvious CM7 unofficial ROM which is (2.3.2) already available. The Desire HD is essentially the same phone so I would be expecting a viable port for MT4G shortly after that. But, it is T-Mo’s call if they release an official update to 2.3 mySense, seeing as how its their “top end Android” device its got a decent shot.
