Hopefully this goes better for Aria owners than it did for Samsung Epic owners.

Wait, so Android 2.2 – which came out in May of 2010 – is just now becoming available on a phone, when it has already been succeeded by Android 2.3 two months ago?
    Yay Android.

No, it’s not ‘succeeded’ by 2.3 yet. The only phones that have 2.3 are the Nexus phones. Those are Google’s development and testing phones so they get everything first to test for bugs. 2.2 is still the stable branch right now. Know your facts before you hit the post button.

Android 2.3 came out in early December, and it certainly hasn’t been advertised as being a “beta” version or anything like that. The fact is, the successor to 2.2 has been out for almost two and a half months already (it’s even now up to 2.3.3). That it is only available on two phones right now just underscores my point. The Aria is being upgraded to an outdated OS.

The Aria is a slick little phone if you don’t need large display. It’s very fast and isn’t laggy. I have one sitting here that I haven’t used in a bit, but I’ll toss a sim in and update to check it out.

If I had only known that when I bought it.. :-)

      Gonna go big next time…

The Aria was always something of an enigma to me. One of Android’s biggest advantages is the wealth of multimedia apps available, and they are best experienced on a big screen. The Aria always seemed like something of a niche device, pairing Android with a compact form factor. Nifty little device, but IMHO the small screen and compact size miss the idea of Android.

What, AT&T can’t do the updates ota? Oh that’s right, they just got their 14.4mbps network – with nothing on it.

HTC will always be first with the newest software/OS updates… Samsung will always be last.
