T-Mobile readying truly unlimited data plan?

mobile

According to a tip received by TmoNews, the nation’s fourth largest carrier — T-Mobile — is readying a new, unlimited data-plan for launch later this year. The information comes courtesy of a training document, which reads:

Please note that a [sic] an unlimited plan for more than 5GB of monthly data use will launch sometime this year.

Currently, users on T-Mobile’s unlimited, monthly data plan are subject to throttled downlink speeds after 5GB of use; presumably the new plan would up or remove the full-speed quota. The title of said document is “T-Mobile 4G Mobile Hotspot” and it’s purpose is to educate T-Mo reps on how to prevent “third-degree bill-shock.” Nice.

In my state, T-Mobile has increased its coverage area by about half, covering the vast majority of the state now. But this new coverage is only EDGE. They have not increased their 3G coverage area at all, not one additional site since the initial launch 3 years ago. And they have their “4G” in only one city, not both the major cities in the state.

Then I must be extremely lucky. I get great service in all the areas I frequent, like North Jersey, NYC, Maryland, Tampa, and Orlando. I even get strong 3G in my basement, which definitely wasn’t always the case. I used to have to turn on EDGE and just use wifi, which I do anyway, but its good to not have to switch back n forth when I leave.

I’d say it would be doubled (10GB) for both smartphones and webconnect.
