Looks like I have a lot of updating to do today… gee thanks MS.

  • Matt Thompson

It’s not really a 1.95Gb update – that’s just the size of the ISO image which contains both the x86 and x64 versions. The x86 update is 538Mb and the x64 is 903Mb – most likely as there’s updates to both Windows 64 bit and 32bit glued together in that :)

And considering you have to download the whole iOS every time you update your phone, 2GB isn’t bad…

Hope BGR updates this article soon. (re: 2GB)

What in the world does the need to download full iOS firmwares to update have to do with anything? Seriously that’s not even a valid comparison, a look at OS X might be more relevant as the incremental OS updates are just that, updates, not a OS. You’re comparing mobile to PCs, though it would make some sense for Apple to offer OTA or manually retrievable iOS updates as it would perhaps allow for updating a.- Over 3G b.- would eliminate the need for a computer and iTunes.

On the other hand having access to full firmwares also allows for a fresh restore if necessary and having to download a simple update as opposed to a the full iOS could have a negative impact on jailbreakers and unlockers… Especially if it were mandated and OTA! Happy to see that M$ is finally pushing out a service pack for Win7, hopefully there are some real improvements and optimizations there! Maybe I’ll boot up my netbook and update, I’ve always been vehemently anti-windows, preferring OS X and various Linux flavors but I must say M$ may have finally got it right and not just pushed trash out the door just to get it to market.

    Me like this update.

Awesome…a crappy update for a crappy OS…how nice.

    • Michael Knight

So … what crappier OS are you running?

      • NagoyaX

I agree… What OS are you running. I have not heard anyone who is using win 7 that thinks its crappy

      • AndroidWins

Most likely that piece of shit OSX garbage. I love how apple fans live in the past; I bet if they tried Win 7 they would change their minds, and I mean a thorough test too. And before you apple tards chime in, yes, I do have to use a Mac for testing purposes at work (unfortunately), so I have experience with both, plus Linux experience, which I also feel apple tards should try.

Have you even used OSX to know what you’re talking about? Or any flavors of Linux? How about BSD? Ever run that? M$ has it’s crap points as much as any of the others out there. Be fair about it though. I like win 7 but honestly, it’s the OS they promised to deliver 5-7 years ago. Just be fair about it.

Hi, my name is Stewart, it is a pleasure to meet you.

I fortunately only run Win 7 in a virtual machine for software testing, but I just tried a full blown clean install of it on a new computer this last weekend and it is a serious step in the wrong direction. I will now happily return to my Linux boxes.

He’s already updated his crappy OS with this crappy update, based on his Professional review i won’t bother then shall i?

  • serpentor

Isn’t the service pack just all the previous service packs rolled into one?

    • Anonymous

There are some additional fixes in it that haven’t been released yet

  • Anonymous

    Already?!
    Wasn’t this thing just released???
I hope it includes a buffer for that blinding glare on Steve Ballmer’s head!

win 7 released in oct 09. I know cuz I got it then. it’s perfect amount of time. (and got it at cheap college student discount too whoopie!!)

Why does it show Windows 6.1 as per: windows(6.1)-KB976932-X64.exe for 64BIT windows(6.1)-KB976932-X86.exe for 32BIT

    • Anonymous

’7′ is just a marketing number; it’s reallly still just a mobile platform (without copy & paste).

      • swtrainer

Papinyc, No, it wasn’t just released and its not Windows 7 Phone that this is in regards to. If you paid attention to the thread, you’d notice that it’s a Service Pack for Windows 7 Desktop OS, not the Windows 7 Phone OS. The lack of Copy/Paste is on the Win7 Phone. So, your missing the point here.

Just did the update on my Lenovo laptop and now my space bar is very glitchy

  • Worldfoot

My total download size on Win 7 Home prem 32bit was 44megs for SP1. Size probably varies according to how updated your system is.

    • sirpaul

SP1 is mostly a ‘pack’ of all previous updates, plus a little more. If you have auto-updates on and you;ve been installing all updates as they come in, download should be small.

  • Mcrevolt

It’s available on Windows Update now so if you download it from there, it adjusts the appropriate amount of updates needed for SP1. Mine was around 50MB.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HN356SACGRDFUMMXB4YH2QLVOU CEiLo

the update was only 90 MB on my win 7 home prem 64bit

    • http://twitter.com/Dr_Mom Dr_Mom

Same here, but my machine was fully patched including all the optional patches before I did the update. Actually was pretty painless except for the necessary rebooting half way through.

Wait for Windows Update. The download size on WinUpdate will be 70-100 MB for most users. It’s a colossal waste of bandwidth to grab the full pack unless you are trying to slipstream or you are dealing with 10+ computers.

Also, the changes in 7 are minimal at best – nothing you will ever visually notice. Most of the stuff changed in this SP is for Server ’08R2.
