Apple to announce iPad 2 on March 2nd, WSJ reports

Tablets

Apple will announce its next-generation iPad tablet at a special media event on March 2nd, The Wall Street Journal reports. The report, found on The Journal’s BoomTown blog, cites multiple sources with its claim and further supports an earlier report that the iPad 2 release will not be delayed. Apple will hold the event in San Francisco to announce its new tablet, as usual, and it is unclear whether or not Apple CEO Steve Jobs will be on hand to unveil the device. Jobs is currently on medical leave, so it stands to reason that he will not be in attendance. In that case, Tim Cook will likely run the show as he did during Jobs’ last medical leave. Press has not begun receiving invitations for the event yet, though they should begin arriving soon if The Journal’s report is accurate.

Lol, at headline. How far after apple press release do they start launching their devices?

    • Anonymous

Just like all the other Android companies. 4-6 months after the announcement. Look at the first iPhone launch. Typical.

        Ok, thx

with all first gen devices it’s usually a 4-6 month lead time, however once they get to second generation, it’s released within 2 weeks of the announcement.

iPhone’s 3G, 3GS and 4 have all been announced June 3-8 and released June 17-24th.

The iPad 2 preorders will start that day (as they do after any other Apple announcement) and the device will probably ship within 2 weeks.

At least it’s not vaporware we see at CES in January and have to wait until June, July, and August to see working models, much less learn a release date.

All these crApple rumours are sickly nauseating;I need some Maalox and Imodium A.D. (Advanced)!!!!!

It’s making me sick. I can’t stand all of this crApple. I need more Xoom news NOW!

XOOM, THUNDERBOLT, AND GALAXY TAB 2 4G LTE; I’ll pass on the XOOM, though, because of Motoblur. Since, I’ve had enough of it on this DROID X and, I really don’t want to buy an $800 tablet just to ROOT it.
        :)

      • Zacqua10

Xoom doesn’t have Motoblur, its stock Honeycomb.

      • Anonymous

The Xoom’s version of DROID hasn’t been out long enough to get raped and pillaged. No worries.

      • Anonymous

        Hmmm…..????

I’ll have to do the research; I think it was PDAdb or PhoneArena that listed Motoblur UI???

      • Anonymous

I saw a scene on Resident Evil where the zombies holding up a xoom (cause that what a fandroid actually looks like) and Alice pressed something on her ipad and all the zombies with the xoom caught fire

      • Anonymous

Go to the FANdroid site….all the xoom news you want

  • JNM

Now, announcements are announced in advance to make sure there is enough interest in the announcement to announce afterward that the announcement was huge and that whatever was announced was worth announcing. Neat.

and news is now news before it’s news. This just in! Something might be just in in a few weeks!

  • Anonymous

I predict that 5 out of the 7 Xooms purchased will be released on the 3rd.

Apple could make REAL news if it announced it is dropping it’s vendetta against Flash…and non-removable batteries…and is fixing crappy notifications in iOS…

    • http://twitter.com/MattSTKC MattSTKC

problems with Flash aren’t just Apple’s issue. The Xoom won’t even ship with Flash.

      • David

don’t be dumb. Flash is coming to the xoom in a few weeks. STFU.

      • Anonymous

No kidding. It will be here by July at least. It’s not a big deal!

      • Anonymous

Don’t be dumb. Xoom doesn’t have a removable battery. STFU.

      • David

steven, i know xoom doesn’t have a removable battery, but it isn’t A PHONE. Apple needs to stop their BS with making cell phones without removable batteries.

    • Davva360

Don’t really care about flash but I agree 100% on the notifications front. There are much better ways to handle them.

Very true David. Then and only when that ever happen, would I consider buying more that an Ipod nano. Plus getting rid of the micro sim crap.

What a coincidence. BGR reports that an Apple Taiwanese parts manufacture says that the iPad was delayed then Apples stocks fall with that news…then all the sudden WSJ (credible resource) reports that the iPad isn’t delayed. Apple leak maybe to boost stocks…no coincidence there.

I still prefer the HP TouchPad than the rest of the tablets. WebOS feels like much more alive in a tablet than in a phone. But I have no doubt that the iPad dos will sell well.

I wonder if there will come a time when you guys at BGR really get serious about your work.
One minute you jump on a dubious rumour-train and the next you huddle back by claiming that everybody was talking about it and now it’s probably not even true. Check your sources well – that’s the #1 rule in journalism – and you guys by that messure are quite far away from being i that range. So either do some more learning about your line of work or skip the “genius” in your name.

      @J Hamburg

It’s a BLOG, not a news agency. They are either reporting on reports or following up on articles. I rarely see breaking news out of BGR.

But I do agree with you in a sense that just because this is a BLOG, it would be nice to see some of the events that they report be verified at least.

I’ve been wanting to believe this for so long

They better have better specs than that, if not it’s not even worth a upgrade!! Why because it has a camera, you got to be kidding me. Steve Jobs does it again, releases a minor refresh of a year old product!!!
