Sprint to announce new phone on Thursday, likely the HTC 7 Pro

mobile

Sprint revealed on Monday its plans to unveil a new device later this week. In a post to its official Twitter account, Sprint said its next phone will be unveiled on Thursday, February 24th. The carrier gave no indication at first in terms of what phone it might announce, saying only, “What do you think the next new Sprint phone will be? Find out Thursday!” Initial speculation included the unnamed Android-powered QWERTY candy bar phone from Samsung spied earlier this month and the Windows Phone 7 handset Sprint subscribers have been waiting for, the HTC 7 Pro. The latter was then basically confirmed by a more recent Sprint tweet: “If you could design a brand new phone, what would it have? Ours will have a hub for gaming, music, pictures and video.” The HTC 7 Pro features a 3.6-inch touchscreen display, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, a 5-megapixel camera and a landscape-oriented slide-out QWERTY keypad.

Didnt Samsung just announce the Galaxy S 2 with all those hubs??

Someone correct me if I’m wrong but are OEMs just not putting WP7 on larger devices so far? I love my EVO, but it would be sweet to see WP7 on a 4.3″

The Dell Venue Pro has a 4.1″ display and the HD7 has a 4.3″ display.

We over at TechHog [dot] com believe this is the Samsung phone due to the wording of “Hub” which is something that Samsung uses in it’s marketing. I personally believe the “first” Window Phone 7 device on Sprint would deserve or at least garner more than just a tweet.

Really? WP7 is based on six hubs. WP7 also got its own release celebration at the end of last year. The 7 Pro was announced then. As a result, and due to the as-of-now failure of WP7, all the Pro 7 deserves is a tweet, but I’m sure there will be more before, or at least on, Thursday.

Isn’t Apple having an event that Same day?????????

  • da man

if u THiNK about it,all SPRiNT has to do is come with SUCCESORS to the EVO(htc evo2) and the EPiC(galaxy s2) to stay RELEVANT because those two DEViCES,alone, helped them gain subscribers…but,as for the NEW PHONE,all i want to hear is EPiC2.

  • fr3dd0

    no EVO2 = no care…

I may be sick and tired of Windows After dealing with it for 3+ years (HTC Touch & Touch Pro 2) and My TP2 pretty much has Alzheimer’s now but any phone with a TP2 Keyboard deserves a look regardless of its OS.

    • Sp33d0s

Ummm have you seen the shift? Its almost the same formfactor and similar keyboard to the tp2 but with double the battery life as the evo.

  • Tuscano77

iPhone for Sprint : ) Apple is rumored to be having an event that same day…….
(besides, the market is already flooded with enough crappy Android phones
that they’ve already left behind and unsupported. Who wants another???)
