Job listing hints at future Apple television product

General

A job listing on Apple’s website searching for an AC/DC Power Supply Design Engineer may have let slip a future Apple product line that has been rumored numerous times in the past: an Apple television. Not Apple TV; an actual television set designed and built by Apple. “This is an excellent opportunity to work on the forefront of new power management designs and technologies with the exemplary company consistently bringing innovations in the industry,” Apple’s job listing states. “The position primarily involves high-density offline power supply’s development for Apple’s next generation Macintosh platforms spanning from notebook computers, desktop computers, servers, standalone displays and TV.” That’s right, TV. The television set is still at the center of the home entertainment market despite PC makers’ best efforts, and the introduction of 3D technology fizzling at best. TV hardware is practically begging for some innovation and if Apple can manage to wow the world with a novel television product — which it failed to do with Apple TV — the company’s iTunes video business could become just as successful as its music business.

Considering the prices of their monitors… what is this gonna cost? $10,000?

    Pass.

BGR stop trying to read too much into statements. smh. They are looking for superior talent in the industry so they want a skill set in a variety of different areas to keep their future innovation options open.

It’s not about televisions, I want my mobile device to be able to charge it’s battery while connected to WiFi, now is that a hard thing to do?

Great! Now these idiots at Apple will try to make TV’s simple! I can’t allow this to happen. We, the Goofan (aka Apple Hater) Nation like things to stay intellectually challenging. If Apple gets its way, I HOPE NOT, everything will be simple to use! NO WAY! Stay away from TV’s Cupertino.

What’s with the pathetic apple mockups? First a larger iPhone that’s supposed to have a similar sized frame is shown to be much larger than the current iPhone, and now a mockup of a TV made by Apple that has an AppleTV attached to it.

I expected it to be shaped like a giant iPhone

If Apple made a TV, I would bet they would somehow have Apple TV built in.

The TV is probably gonna cost us like 2,000$ or Higher since APPLE always have a high mark up price in their products

Man I’ve been saying they should do that for a million years. What took them so long? An even better option…for google… is to create a version of android light and small enough that it can run on televisions and scrap that whole google tv nonsense.

i can’t speak for everyone but for one do NOT want another set top box.

  • http://twitter.com/JasonRTweets Jason

They would almost certainly build the box into the TV if they were going to do this, which they aren’t.

      Weenie McBigSmac,

Why do you have such an aversion to Apple products? Did one of their products touch you inappropriatley as a child?

I agree Apple products are too expensive. But I’m sure I could NOT call LG or Samsung and get an English speaking customer service rep. Also, my father-in-law took his Macbook in to Chicago’ Apple store A WEEK after his AppleCare ran out, and they replace the logic board FREE. So you get what you pay for, and for that matter we should be excited when an American company does well. I’d pay for a little extra for a product if the product and company are reputable AND American. :-)
