World’s largest Apple Store coming to Grand Central Terminal

Retail

A new report claims Apple will build its largest Apple Store retail location to date within New York’s famous Grand Central Terminal. Apple blog Cult of Mac claims to have confirmed the news with a reliable source close to the company. The forthcoming store — appropriately dubbed Apple Store, Grand Central — will be announced in approximately one month and will likely open in early September of this year. “The company will certainly pull out all the stops on this one,” said the blog’s source. The Grand Central location is set to become Apple’s biggest retail store location, the report claims. It will win the title from Apple’s Covent Garden location in London, England, where Apple has 16,372 square feet of public retail space in its 40,000 square-foot location. Grand Central Terminal could quickly become Apple’s top retail store in the New York metropolitan area, with over 700,000 people passing through the commuter landmark each day. Apple will reportedly situate its new store right within the Grand Central terminal, as opposed to one of the 100 standard retail spaces found on the premises. The grand opening of Apple’s Grand Central store will reportedly coincide with a celebration of the company’s 10th retail anniversary.

It is amazing how far they have come since the first Apple Store in the Tysons Corner mall in Virginia.

honestly, the tourists already crowd the station..now its just gonna be mayhem.. not like pandemonium to buy Apple stuff, just people standing around lookin at sh*t, gettin in the way.

Still, it makes you look even cuter when you get annoyed. :-)

  • Sprezzatura

Having spent considerable time in that station I find it hard to believe — there’s not exactly a lot of spare space available.

lucky charms or cinnamon toast crunch?

A crappy location for a crappy company with a crappy portfolio of products. Now Google on the other hand, they can open a store in the middle of Beirut and it would be the best store in the world. Bar none.

I am sure Google will get enough Yaks to visit their store if they open it in Mongolia. The open a store required people with customer service skills, something not in Google’s dictionary.

      • Anonymous

Excuse me, but Google DOES NOT need customer service. The fact that their customers (Goofans aka Apple Haters) are the smartest people in the planet means we don’t need help!

Kindly note that Google doesn’t have a portfolio of their own hardware.

Remember when it was actually just a train station? Now it’s like a mall. So a big glass cube in a big open spot? This certainly changes everything.

  • SwampLynx

If they close the Oyster Bar to fit this bull shit in there I am going to be pissed.

  • Petey

    Like nah uh… forreals?…

    Anyways…

It’s named Grand Central Terminal not station. News headline FAIL.

Grand Central is designated as a Terminal, not station. Its Grand Central Terminal, and I’m glad it was said correctly towards the end of the article. Oh, and congrats to apple, for obtaining such a fantastic location.

They didn’t completely fix it, since Terminal was not capitalized. Nitpicking, no doubt, but I’m a stickler for those kinds of things.

      • losers

actual NYers, like myself, don’t give a sh*t. its still a station because ya still gotta take the damn train there. for those of us who live here, this sucks….we have 4 stores, why do we need a fifth?

  • Digitaltouch

Imagine the lines and hours of wait when a new device comes out. I’m sure there paying grand for that spot.

  • Showard

This makes no sense… Apple has like 3 things to show in their stores, theres no reason to make them large.

    • Anonymous

3 things with 30,000 people to see and buy them. That’s enough reason to have a big store. On the other hand Microsoft has 30,000 things and cannot find 3 people to step into their store. Microsoft – Shitty Software for Shitty People.

You’d think their biggest Apple Store would be close to their campus. But cool none the less

Where in Grand Central Terminal is there space to hold an Apple store? Especially since they are planning to put the Metro-North there in a few years.

    • Djtonyj

Ummm Metro North runs to GCT, actually its the ONLY train service that runs to and from GCT.

    • Anonymous

are u serious? the Metro North has been there for-ev-er…. i had to travel upstate to school on it for awhile (green line) before I got car…. god i love my car.

      • Anonymous

Well, I love that you love your car. Now I can go sleep peacefully!

        I meant lirr

  • Guest41

Not cool. There’s too many people in there now. How on earth does something like this get approved? Is a Walmart next?

    • Eric

I don’t think you can compare a Walmart store to an Apple store.

  • Homer

How much space do they need to show a phone, a music player and a handful of computers??? This is just them throwing their money around… and this where your money is going when you overpay to buy one of their products.
