Verizon Home Phone Connect makes its debut

mobile

Verizon’s Home Phone Connect service just went live on the carrier’s website, though the link for the service is down at the moment. The new offering will let you connect your home phone to Verizon’s wireless network, and it uses a base station that merges your landline phone and Verizon’s cellular network. For $19.99/month, you get unlimited calling or $9.99/month to add your home landline to your existing wireless family plan. Not a bad deal at all, and it’s a pretty interesting concept, especially since it doesn’t use your existing broadband connection. The service was trialed in New York and Connecticut previously, but it looks like general availability starts now.

Thanks, Henry!

My husband and I tried this device, it works, yet consider, we couldn’t use our fax machine, we couldn’t use mulitple base units, we had to set our home answering system to 4 or less rings in order for it not to go to the wireless vm. We own a 6.0 phone, we had to keep it way away from the wireless device, thus needing a LOONG cord. Also, we couldn’t figure out why when an incoming call comes in and it went to answering machine, once the call hung up, a busy signal sound is on for about 5 seconds. (?) But, if this is something you want for the low price and you can live with these issues, it does work. :)

If you go out to the phone box and disable your landline phones, then plug the device into you phone jack.
All the landline phones in your house will be wireless, but keep the old number. Cool device.

This seemed like a great idea, a great way to save on phone service. I was impressed when I walked into a Verizon store and saw it with a monthly fee of only $19.99. The problem: the service is poor, not a way to run a business. There are clicks, shadow sounds, long silences and delays.
