Samsung Epic 4G and Sanyo Zio to get Froyo updates on February 21st

Exclusive

A new source contacted BGR on Thursday with details surrounding much awaited Android 2.2 (Froyo) updates for the Samsung Epic 4G and the Sanyo Zio from Sprint. In line with previous rumors, the Samsung Epic 4G will apparently be updated to Froyo starting on February 21st — though our source claims the build number will be EB13, a later build than the EA17 update referenced in earlier rumors. The update will be delivered over the air (OTA), and will be rolled out across the country over the course of four days. Listed changes include improved Bluetooth device support, Bluetooth voice dialing, Flash Player 10.1, GPS enhancements, improved OS performance and ability to install applications to external storage. Hit the break for details on the Zio.

Sanyo’s Zio smartphone will begin receiving an OTA update to Froyo on February 21st as well, and it will be rolled out over the course of five days. The Zio’s update will be build number 2.200SP and listed changes include the addition of Swype, Sprint Zone 2.5.5, Sprint ID activation improvements and better battery life. Zio users will have to accept three separate downloads related to this update and it is recommended that they connect to Wi-Fi before beginning the process.

I’ll believe it when i see it….if not i’ll root it on myself, then when my upgrade comes i’ll be sure to pick a phone company that cares about customer service

You realize its not Sprint, its Samsung.

Those who don’t know how to root/rom phones care. Me? I’ve been rocking Froyo on my Fascinate for over a month. In another (or 2) I should have Gingerbread based on CM7, can’t wait! Screw Samsung and the carries ineptness.

go go CM7 ON THE EVO FTW 2.3 lol

I am not sure way people keep saying that its Samsung s ineptitude involving the update to 2.2. They don’t care about the galaxy s phones, because they want you to buy the new galaxy s 2 phones. The only reason they are releasing 2.2 in the US is because of the large outcry.

Maybe so, but what Samsung fails to realize is, most bought these on a 2yr contract. The smart move would be to update the phones. This way the consumer will be happy with Samsung. If the consumer has a good experience, there is a higher chance of them sticking with Samsung.
Currently Samsung has just told their consumers to go f themselves.

    Don’t hold your breath!!

So, in other words, the 2.2 update will go to a handful of handsets, and then be stopped, never to return? CAN’T WAIT.

Wonder what this will do to the Zio.. which might be the worst performing phone on the market currently? (low CPU, higher res screen)

    • not happy with sanyo

IT DAMAGED THE ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM, AT MY EXPENSE. I NOW HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER PHONE.

yea right!! samsung doesn’t give a shit about their customers. it’s all about moving product. i , we people who bought galaxy s phones got an incomplete product with promises made it has been since july. where are the law suites. i want every thing on the phone to work properly !!! and as android gets more and more fragmented it will get worse. there is no accountability google is ultimately responsible they provide a product with no contracts and no strings and these companies screw it up. it’s off to samsung biggest customer for me. apple. I-phone

they will come up with some other excuse on the 20th about how it needs to be pushed back so I guess the Epic users wont see 2.3 until the end of 2012 if ever

If I do the software update will it erase all my applications and photos?

  • Seaxrising

got the update on my Zion, took 2 days to download and now it’s dead. The update has crashed my phone, and so many others, to a permenant black screen! Save yourself the hassle, throw it away now and just buy yourself a new phone and NOT a Zio!!!

  • NOT HAPPY WITH SANYO

DID THE UPGADE ON MY SANYO ZIO AND LOST THE ENTIRE OPERATING SYSTEM. PHONE WOULDN’T EVEN TURN ON. MY OPTION FROM SPRINT IS TO EITHER ACCEPT A REFURBISHED ZIO OR PURCHASE A NEW PHONE FOR $400(COST OF A DECENT PHONE).
