Motorola ATRIX 4G may launch on February 22nd

mobile

BGR has been informed by a source claiming knowledge of AT&T’s launch plans that the highly anticipated Motorola ATRIX 4G may become available sooner than expected. AT&T announced earlier this month that the ARTIX 4G would launch on “March 6th or earlier” at $199.99, with pre-sales starting on February 13th. It now looks as though the device is ready ahead of schedule, and it will become available next week on February 22nd. AT&T’s ATRIX features a dual-core 1GHz processor, a 4-inch qHD touchscreen display, 1GB of RAM and the Android 2.2 Froyo operating system. We reviewed the Motorola ATRIX 4G earlier this month and found it to be “a very impressive product that brings an impressive set of accessories and peripherals to market that extend the smartphone into something much, much more.”

While this is indeed a great DROID that will bring choice and competition which is good for the consumer I recommend the DROID BIONIC 4G LTE which is on an actual 4G network and will be a far better choice than AT&T and their new DROID.

I just wish that the dock option wasn’t so expensive.

No US Carrier is on an actual 4G network

Yeah if you go by the world speed standards but technology wise Sprint and VZW is 4G just not comparable 4G speeds. At least Sprint and Verizon are using a technology that is different than what they already been using. AT&T and TMO are fradulent so the can just say they have 4G when what they have they could have been deployed and are only doing it because they don’t have a real 4G (LTE, Wimax) technology ready.

“while this is indeed a great DROID” … Norm, this is NOT a DROID. This is an Atrix. I intend on purchasing the laptop and entertainment docks, which the DROID will not have. Nor does the DROID have a webtop interface. LTE is not available yet, so that isn’t even a consideration. I’m not going to buy something now that can be used to it’s potential a year from now if I replace my phone every year anyways.

Good luck with “intending on purchasing the laptop and entertainment docks”. I would absolutely LOVE to do that too with the ATRIX; but I have ZERO FAITH in ATT. Remember the LG Expo from 2009? The first mobile phone with a pico projector attachment? ATT released the phone but NEVER released the projector attachment. Pathetic ATT!! I’m feeling deja-vu!!

      • numetheus

What does that have to do with AT&T? To my knowledge LG never released the projector. It’s not AT&T sole responsibility to bring that to market. It’s LG’s. Something like a projector by LG would have been available through other channels outside of AT&T. I have never heard of a company selling an attachment exclusively through the carrier. LG just decided not to produce it. This is not the same … The keyboard will be available.

Too bad they all have android. No apps worth a damn. Worthless units

Coolio. Will there be an LTE version of this phone released in 2H11? I love the hardware and everything I’ve read about it … but I just can’t buy an HSPA+ smartphone with LTE going to be available in my area in 6 months or so.

id rather have att hspa+ than verizon lte anyway, first of all, for the first year or two, it will be faster than verizons lte, after which ill just upgrade to an lte phone, secondly, its going to suck for verizon customers when theyre using mobile data and they move out of lte coverage and their whole phone crashes and explodes going back into cdma garbage

    • Anonymous

Have you used VZWs 4G? It’s much faster.

      • Vzguest

ijnc26 is saying when att goes lte, with hspa+ as a backup, if you get off their lte coverage, you would connect back to hspa+. whereas on verizon, if you get off verizon’s lte coverage, you would connect back to the old and slow cdma network. and hspa+ is faster than verizon’s cdma.

      • aggie99

the good thing to keep in mind about verizon is, their goal is to have their entire 3g coverage area covered with LTE by 2013. AT&T plans to do the same with their 3g coverage area in a longer time frame. However, we know AT&T’s 3g footprint is laughable compared to Verizon’s. So I really wouldn’t be too concerned with dropping to CDMA only. Yes initially you will have that happen until the LTE network is expanded, however in a year or two it should be a non issue whereas with AT&T you will probably still have rural areas where you end up on EDGE.

    Hooray!

How much is AT&T going to charge for the privilege of 4G?

  • http://twitter.com/Aquariuss Aquariuss!!!

YAY now reduce the price of that lapdock Chump sucka!!

  • justin

dont expect to have 4g speeds on at&t – you will most likely still average the same 3g speeds until 2013 *sigh*

The ATRIX is a decent phone but number 6 on my list. The screen is under 4″, it doesn’t support wireless N, it doesn’t have Gorilla Glass or other scratch-proof screen and there’s no FM tuner…unless my information on the specs are wrong.

The LG P990 Optimus 2X, the Acer Liquid 4.8″ and even the HTC Desire HD A9192 (the ATT version) are BETTER imo…

    • Smrt

The screen is gorilla glass, it is not under 4″, its also higher res than all the phones you mentioned, It has FM tuner. It supports wireless N. How misinformed can a person be?

  • Steel

You know this is because AT&T is begging Motorola for the phone, crying “We don’t know what to do w/o an exclusive device!”

  • Scorp

    4G is a bit of a stretch

  • Spdr-Mn

Hey, the 22nd is George Washington’s birthday!

  • Scott

I got my pre-order in on Sunday. I have yet to see an e-mail with the tracking number. But I do hope this is true, because the sooner I get my new phone, the sooner I can throw my iPhone in the junk drawer!

  • Jvkintheusa

I pre-ordered with overnight delivery. Wonder if I get my phone delivered on the 22nd before. I will be pissed if I get it later than the 22nd.
